Exploration History

1846: Veins were reported in a Montreal Mining Company report on the east and west sides of the northern part of Nipigon Strait. 1961: Sutherland and Company drilled 3 diamond drill holes, totalling 839.1 m for E. and G. Dampier. 1968: Eight diamond drill holes, totalling 301.1 m were completed for J.L. Carroll. 1970: The claims lapsed. 1985: Unstaked as of December 18, 1985. 1987: J. Dampier and sons conducted prospecting including underwater sampling. 1995: Six patented claims cover the area: TB 44229, TB 44224, TB 44226, TB 44227, TB 44257, TB 44258.

Geology

Province: Superior

Geological Age: Archean

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (B Nelson) - The Carroll occurrence is located near the western shore of St. Ignace Island, near the base of the (Proterozoic) Osler volcanic rocks. These rocks are primarily amygdaloidal to massive basalt with minor andesite which are underlain by Osler sedimentary rocks. One diamond drill hole 27 m long was drilled along the lake shore to test showings consisting of native copper in amygdules or disseminated in the lava.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (B Nelson) - The mineralization encountered in the diamond drill hole was native copper with trace amounts of silver. No mineralization of economic importance was discovered. The Carroll occurrences were visited by the Resident Geologist's program. Other than some evidence of diamond drilling, no evidence of mineralization was found. No samples were submitted for analyses by the Resident Geologist's program, however, exceptional samples of native copper from the Carroll occurrences have been viewed on the Morning Star, which is the charter boat of M. and J (E.S). Dampier. (Resident Geologist's Program, Schreiber Hemlo District, Thunder Bay).
