Geology

Province: Superior

Geological Age: Archean

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (B Nelson) - The Carroll occurrence is located near the western shore of St. Ignace Island, near the base of the (Proterozoic) Osler volcanic rocks. These rocks are primarily amygdaloidal to massive basalt with minor andesite which are underlain by Osler sedimentary rocks.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (B Nelson) - In 1961, Sutherland and Company drilled one diamond drill hole on what is probably the Carroll North occurrence. The hole encountered disseminated native copper in amygdules associated with chlorite, prehnite, and calcite; but no economically important mineralization was discovered. The Carroll occurrences were visited by the Resident Geologist's program. Other than some evidence of diamond drilling, no evidence of mineralization was found. No samples were submitted for analyses by the Resident Geologist's program. However, exceptional samples of native copper from the Carroll occurrences have been viewed on the Morning Star, which is the charter boat of M. and J (E.S.) Dampier.
