Aug 28, 2015 (Therese Pettigrew) - This showing is a pyrite-bearing chert-magnetite iron formation that trends 045 degrees and dips shallowly to the southeast at 45 degrees. The unit cross-cuts the fine grained mafic volcanics of the area, which are also pyrite mineralized at the contact (up to 15% fine grained disseminated pyrite). The cherty unit varies in thickness from 1 to 5 metres. Anomalous historical gold values were collected from this horizon and prospecting completed by Benton Resources in 2009 resulted in the collection of seven grab samples which ranged in value from 100 ppb up to 5581 ppb Au across a 75 m strike-length. A channel sample taken in 2010 assayed 8.5 g/t Au over 1 m (Clark, 2010). The gold-bearing horizon strikes 070 degrees and has been traced for 500 m along the south wall of an east-northeast-trending valley. The mineralization is hosted by an oxide facies banded iron formation which has a maximum thickness of 3 m. Bedding is defined by l cm thick bands of magnetite and grey chert. Bedding is transposed parallel to a strong foliation which strikes 070 degrees, and dips 30 degrees south. This iron formation is locally pyritized. The iron formation itself is hosted by a mylonite zone which is more than 6 m but less than 15m thick. Country rock is mafic in composition (hornblende-phyric) and of variable grain size ranging from fine to medium. These rocks may be recrystallized flows, the result of amphibolite-grade metamorphism. Some may also be later intrusive rocks. Within and in proximity to the mylonite zone, feldspathic dykes are common. The mafic rocks are locally altered to pink colour resulting in a mottled to wispy red and green weathered surface. This gold mineralization is the result of the shearing and alteration of the iron formation. This particular shear zone is coincident with a narrow linear topographic depression (Lavigne et al., 1991).
