Feb 03, 2017 (Andrew Tims) - The area of the showing is underlain by felsic to intermediate with mafic metavolcanic rocksto the west. The mafic metavolcanic rocks consist of massive to pillowed and amygdaloidal flows and their derived schists. Volumetrically minor chert-magnetite banded iron formation occurs within the mafic volcanic sequences. Locally massive aphyric flows and their derived schists host the showing. A small granitic stock of similar composition to the Burchell Lake pluton intrudes the felsic metavolcanic pile near the western shore of Burchell Lake. Ubiquitous quartz and quartz-feldspar porphyries, as steeply dipping sills and dykes, intrude the volcanic rocks concordantly throughout the area.

Oct 09, 2018 (Therese Pettigrew) - A.P. Coleman described the showing in Mining Location R559 as being from a well-defined quartz porphyry containing pyrite and chalcopyrite with a little fluorite. Assays returned up to $7 Au per ton (0.35 opt Au based on $20 Au; 12 gpt Au). One assay yielded 0.5 ounce of platinum and 11 oz of silver (Coleman, 1896). J. Lukosius-Sanders collected a sample in 1990 that assayed 9.6 gpt Au (AFRI 52B10SE0008). Samples from Trench T-5 collected by J. Lukosius-Sanders in 1990 returned assays of up to 2776 ppm Cu and 2010 ppb Au, 38210 ppm Cu and 4260 ppb Au, and 72663 ppm Cu and 9600 ppb Au (AFRI 52B10SE0021). Lavigne et al. (1991) reported assays of 9.6 gpt Au, 7.3% Cu, 192.2 gpt Ag, and 607 ppm Zn from Trench G, which had pods of massive pyrite, chalcopyrite, and minor spaherite in shear zones within rhyolite and feldspar porphyry.
Date: Jul 03, 1990
Geologist: M Lavigne
Notes: This property is known to contain 8 gold occurrences over an area 0.5 km wide by 2.4 km long. Only a minor amount of exploration is on record as having taken place prior to the 1980s. Many of the geophysical anomalies were either drilled or stripped and sampled from 1987 to 1989. RGP vist: Goldfields Gold Showing—rhyolite and feldspar porphyry with east-trending (100°-120°) shear zones typically less than 0.1 m wide. Pods of massive pyrite, chalcopyrite and minor sphalerite in shear zones assayed 9.6 g/t Au, 7.3% Cu, 192.2 g/t Ag and 607 ppm Zn
