Access Description: Access is available by motor vehicle via highway 11, west of the junction of Highway 11 and 623, about one half the distance to the Nym Lake access road (3.5km). From highway 11, one travels north on the mine road about 9.6km which has been maintained previously by the Ontario - Minnisota Pulp company. An alternate route is a road which connects the plant site and shaft with the Niobe Lake road which in turn joins Highway 120 at a point about 24 km east of the town of Atikokan. The distance from the plant and shaft site to the Niobe Lake road is 9.6km; from the Niobe Lake road cut off to the highway, about 2.4km. Access is available via the road the runs north from Highway 11 approximately 5km west of the Highway 623 - Highway 11 junction.



Exploration History

1887-88: Prospecting in the area of Osinawi Lake. 1895-1910: Area actively prospected 1928: Prospecting, trenching, and sampling 1929: Exploratory work 1930: Vein shown on Map 38e 1936: Report, assays and sampling plan. 1945: 9 drill holes 1946: Surface sampling 1950: X-ray D.D. 10 holes totaling 4000feet. 1960: 28 D.D. holes totaling 2216m. 1960 - 1966: 50 D.D. surface holes totaling 5042.3m. D.D. from 143 underground holes totaling 2632.9m. 1961: Shaft sunk a further 99m to a depth of 107m. 12 D.D. holes from surface totaling 1344.5m 1962: 212m of drifting, 2.1m of crosscutting and 72 m of raising. 10 D.D. holes from surface totaling 1482m. 4 D.D. holes underground totaling 125.6m Surface trenching 1963: 76.2m of drifting and 110.3m of raising. 1 D.D. hole underground, 56.4m 1964: 55.2m of drifting, 124m of crosscutting and 80.2m of raising. 17 D.D. holes underground, totaling 1073m. 1965: Shaft sunk a further 202.7m to a total depth of 309.7m. 167.6m of drifting, 417.9m of crosscutting and 2 D.D. holes underground totaling 57.3m. 1966: 631 m of drilling, 16.2m of crosscutting and 447.4m of raising. 119 D.D. holes underground totaling 1320.7m. Mining and milling ceased in 1966. 1974: Magnetic and detailed geological surveys. 1975: 28 additional claims were staked east and west of the mine property. The miners' residence and mine office were renovated. 1976: Detailed, outcrop geology map produced. 1979 -1980: Mine rehabilitation including the hoist, headframe, mine buildings and road. Dewatering of the shaft to the 133m level, including the first two mine levels. 1980: Sampling by the Atikokan Economic Geologist Program from the 52m and 97m levels.
