Point Location Description: GPS
Location Method: Conversion from MDI
Access Description: Access to the property is via the Brule Road from Highway 11 to a location 900 m north of the Canadian National Railway tracks (UTM 657245E 5399927N) and thence westerly (and eventually northerly) along an older grown in bush road that leaves the Brule Lake road and accesses Union Lake. This road can best be travelled with either an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) during most of the year or by snow machine in the winter time. The distance to the Atikokan River is about 11.3 km. Proceed across the river and continue for about another 1.8 km. The southwest bay of Sandy Lake is approximately 130 m east of this location.
The area was geologically mapped by McInnes (1897) and published as a regional map depicting the geology of the Thunder Bay and Rainy River districts. Tanton (1938) recompiled the geology of the Thunder Bay–Rainy River District for the Geological Survey of Canada. 1957: Companies including Kinasco Exploration and Mining Limited, Montco Copper Corporation Limited and Nashua Exploration and Mining Limited, conducted geophysical surveys. geological mapping and diamond drilling in the Chief Peter Lake area. Irvine (1963), mapped the western section of Lac des Mille Lacs area in 1960, including the Sandy Lake area, for the Ontario Department of Mines. 1974: Asarco Exploration Company Limited did geological and geophysical surveys southeast of the area. 1979: Rio Tinto flew an airborne electromagnetic survey. In 1980, the Ontario Geological Survey contracted Questor Surveys Limited to conduct an airborne magnetometer and electromagnetic survey along the metavolcanic belt from Mine Centre to Lac des Mille Lacs, covering the Sandy Lake area. 1981: P. Sawdo staked claims TB613961 - 613964 and transfered all interest to B. R. Davidson. Geophysical surveys conducted in 1982 and1983 by Phantom Exploration consisting of VLF and Max Min II. Dyer (1999) undertook lake sediment and lake water regional high-density geochemical survey that outlined newer gold and PGE targets in the Atikokan area. More recently, Stone (2005) mapped the geology of the Bedivere Lake area that includes the area around Sandy Lake. 2009 – 2015: M. Frymire and J. Brown have prospected and collected samples from the Sandy Lake showing. 2016: Exploration focussed on the Sandy Occurrence as well as a new shear zone 150m east of the Sandy Occurrence.

Jun 30, 2015 (Dorothy Campbell) - Samples taken by Frymire and Brown (2012) returned 14,769 ppm Cu. Samples taken by Scott and Campbell (2008) returned 1136 ppm Cu. Schnieders and Dutka (1985) analysed 22 samples; highlights include: sample 81BPS-3: 0.02 oz/t Ag; sample 81BPS-6: 1.39% Cu; sample 81BPS-9: 0.02 oz/t Au, 3.83% Cu; sample 81BPS-14: 0.04 oz/t Au, 0.84 oz/t Ag, 0.42% Cu; sample 82BPS-11: 1.02 oz/t Ag.

Geologist: J Scott
Notes: John Scott and Dorothy Campbell visited the property on Sept 23, 2008. The host rocks at the Sandy Lake occurrence are sheared metavolcanic rock of felsic and mafic compositions. The felsic metavolcanic units are represented by sericite schists, whereas the mafic volcanic units are now chlorite schists. An anastomosing quartz-carbonate vein system striking at 120° with a vertical dip is exposed in an outcrop of sheared mafic volcanic rock on the north shore of the southwest bay of Sandy Lake. Quartz veins are up to 3 m wide ranging down in size to quartz stringers. Chalcopyrite, pyrite, and some galena are present within the main quartz vein. Azurite and malachite are also present as fracture coatings within the quartz vein system. Samples taken by Scott and Campbell (2008) returned 1136 ppm Cu. Evidence of Winkie diamond drilling on the property exists with the presence of an old concrete drill platform as well as scattered drill core. There is no record of diamond drilling on the Sandy Lake copper-gold occurrence in the Thunder Bay Regional Geologist’s office assessment files.
