Point Location Description: Clay symbol located 500m west of Seine River bridge and 150m south of Highway 11 (map P.3261)

Location Method: Data Compilation

Access Description: The occurrence can be accessed from Highway 11 approximately 500m west of the Seine River bridge and then through the bush, south for 150m. This occurrence is located on Seine River First Nation land. Permission should be obtained from the band office before accessing the site.



Exploration History

1980: Discovered by J. Riordan. Sampled by staff of the Thunder Bay Resident Geologist's office in 1980.

Geological Age: Archean  



Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (P Hinz) - The deposit is contained within the Quaternary cover. Silty clay was deposited in a low energy, glaciolacustrine environment. The clay appears to be filling undulations in the Archean basement.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (P Hinz) - The sample upon analysis prove to be montmorillonite clays. The sample was taken just south of Highway 11, approximately several hundred metres west of the Seine River bridge.
