Lithology Comments

Nov 22, 2017 (Therese Pettigrew) - A large radioactive pegmatite dyke on the south shore of Otter Bay is underlain by a series of rusty weathering, biotite-hornblende gneisses. It varies from 61 to 76.2 m in width and is 243.8 m long (Robertson and Gould, 1983).

Mineralization Comments

Nov 22, 2017 (Therese Pettigrew) - The uranium mineralization is found associated with pegmatite which intrudes rusty weathering biotite and biotite-hornblende gneiss striking N25W and dipping 60 degrees NE in the northern section and granite gneisses striking E-W in the southern section. A composite sample of pegmatite was taken by H.D. Carlson of the Ontario Department of Mines. Typical assays were 0.01 to 0.017% U3O8 (Robertson and Gould, 1983). Exploration on the property was directed during 1955 and 1957 by H. D. McLeod of Fort Frances. A grab sample taken from the southern discovery showing was reported by McLeod to contain 0.45% U3O8. During 1957 geological mapping was carried out, 5 holes between 60 and 100 feet in length were drilled at the uranium showing. Radioactivity readings up to 3.5 times background over short lengths were recorded (Blackburn, 1973).
