'The claims were staked in 1951 by J. Horan and acquired around 1952 by Hotstone gold Mines Limited. Between 1952 and 1954, mag, EM and geological surveys were conducted and some diamond drilling was also done. In 1955 the company changed names to become Hotstone Minerals Limited. Although no further work was reported, the company has maintained these claims and at present is listed as being inactive.' (Kenora Historical File 52F/05NE00046 - Ref. Cu 11)
Province: Superior
Geological Age: Precambrian
Feb 16, 2011 (J Bongfelt) - 'A gossan zone up to 60 feet (18m) wide occurs on both sides of the Atikwa River near Waterfall Lake. It lies in partly brecciated mafic flows, adjacent to a small granitic intrusion, and appears to be continuous over a length of at least 500 feet (150m). Mineralization consists of streaky pyyrrhotite with minor pyrite and traces of chalcopyrite.' (GR.111, pg.33)
Feb 16, 2011 (J Bongfelt) - 'Patchy 'hornblende' alteration, considered in company reports to be similar to the alteration of porphyritic mafic metavolcanics in gold-bearing zones at the Maybrun property (which adjoins the Hotstone property to the southeast), occurs in the southeastern part of K15438. Two drill holes in 1954 confirmed the presence of fine-trained pyrrhotite and pyrite in quartz 'threads' irregularly distributed in the hornblende-rich rocks, but gold 'values' were low. Pyrrhotite is finely disseminated in a number of shear zones and carbonate-bearing zones on the property.' (GR.111, pg.33)

Feb 16, 2011 (J Bongfelt) - 'The diamond drilling in 1954 intersected mineralization at 100 feet consisting of streaky pyrrhotite with only minor pyrite and traces of chalcopyrite. Two grab samples were reported to contain 0.20% and 0.06% copper, respectively, but no gold. Prospecting has located only traces of copper.' (Kenora Historical File 52F/05NE00046 - Ref. Cu 11)
