Access Description: It is about 14km by snowmobile and/or bombardier across the ice from at landing at the west end of Dogpaw Lake; aircraft charter service is available either from Kenora or Nestor Falls (29km to the southwest); logging roads extending south from the Maybrun mine road provides access near the northern part of the property.

Exploration History

1948: In the fall, Grand Chibougamau conducted considerable surface stripping and sampling; encouraging gold values were obtained. (Kenora AF 52F/05NW, D-1) The gold prospect was discovered in 1948 by Grand Chibougamau Mines Ltd. During 1987-88, Tanqueray Resources Ltd. carried out an exploration program involving linecutting, ground mag and VLF-EM surveys, geological mapping, orientation humus sampling, manual stripping and trenching and diamond drilling. Since acquisition, the 1987 grid was cleaned out and additional grid lines cut at 50 metre intervals oriented at right angles to the Tanqueray grid (17km). A ground magnetometer survey was carried out over the grid and limited mapping completed. The 1993 stripping program at the Caviar Lake Property of Champion Bear Resources traced the Grand Chibougamau gold prospect for a distance in excess of 30 metres. Geology

Province: Superior

Subprovince: Wabigoon

Belt: Kakagi-Rowan Lakes

Geological Age: Precambrian

Geology Comments

Feb 15, 2011 (J Bongfelt) - The Caviar Lake property lies within the Archean age Kakagi Lake belt of volcanic and sedimentary rocks within the Superior Province of the Precambrian shield. The belt is divided by the northwest-trending Pipestone-Cameron fault system. (Kenora AF 52F/05NW, K-6, Fairservice, R.J. - Report for Tanqueray Resources, pg.3)

Lithology Comments

Feb 15, 2011 (J Bongfelt) - The mineralization on the Caviar Lake property is similar in petrogenesis to the Nuinsco ore deposit, 12km to the southeast. The mineralization on both properties is hosted by silicified carbonate alteration zones associated with zones of shearing. Both the Caviar Lake and Nuinsco properties lie near a major lineament, the Pipestone-Cameron fault system, and are flanked by late granitic stocks, the Hope Lake and Nolan Lake Stocks, respectively. (Kenora AF 52F/05NW, K-6, Fairservice, R.J. - Report for Tanqueray Resources, pg.7)

Mineralization Comments

Feb 15, 2011 (J Bongfelt) - * This information proves this MDI to be a “prospect”. Exploration work on the property during 1987 was concentrated on the Grand Chibougamau showing, a zone of quartz-carbonate alteration with gold mineralization, in the south-central part of the claim group. During July and August, 1987, W.C. Hood Geological Consulting undertook a small program of geologic mapping, orientation soil sampling, outcrop stripping, trenching, and rock sampling. This work outlined several zones with grab samples assaying up to 0.89 oz gold/ton and chip samples up to 0.32 oz gold/ton over 1.5m. Seven diamond drill holes totalling 2,002 feet were completed on the property during October and November, 1987. These holes were intended to test the subsurface grade and continuity of the gold bearing zones that had been indicated by surface sampling. All seven drill holes intersected mineralized carbonate alteration zones, but only hole CAV-87-3 returned an economic grade and width, specifically 0.22 oz gold/ton over 9.2 feet, including 0.50 oz gold/ ton over 3.4 feet. Although the 1988 drill program was very small, it provided important follow-up data to the 1987 program, confirming the ore grade intersection returned in hole CAV-87-3. Drill hole CAV-88-l, drilled directly underneath CAV-87-3, returned 0.17 oz gold/ton over 11.4 feet, including a zone of 0.26 oz gold/ton over 7.0 feet. (Kenora AF 52F/05NW, K-6, Fairservice, R.J. - Report for Tanqueray Resources, pg.7&8)
