Geology

Province: Superior

Subprovince: Wabigoon

Belt: Savant Lake

Geological Age: Archean

Geology Comments

Mar 10, 2011 (J Bongfelt) - 'Mafic volcanic roacks immediately south of contact with mafic intrusive rocks. Structure - weakly foliated rocks. Prospect occurs several hundred metres north of projected extension of the Monte Cristo Shear Zone.' (OFR 5713, Meston Prospect, p.115)

Sep 26, 2017 (Therese Pettigrew) - The property is underlain by rocks of the Archean, Savant Lake-Crow Lake metavolcanic metasedimentary belt in the Wabigoon Subprovince of the Canadian Shield. It occurs within a region of greenstone metavolcanic rock, bounded by granitoid batholiths such as Nolan Lake stock. The area is cut by a number of major faults, the Cameron Lake Shear Zone (CLSZ), a northwest-southeast trending zone of high strain that hosts the gold mineralization of the Cameron Deposit. CLSZ is a splay off the Pipestone-Cameron Fault a northwest-striking structure that separates the Rowan Lake Greenstone Terrane from the Kakagi Greenstone Terrane to the SW. This northwest-striking, steeply northeast-dipping fault is a significant zone of deformation and displacement which has been defined for over 100 km of strike length and has characteristics similar to the regional “breaks” recognized in other Canadian Archean gold camps. The Monte Cristo Shear Zone is another main structure in the region striking NE-SW, to the east of the CLSZ. The Monte Cristo Shear Zone has gold occurrences along its length most notably Monte Cristo and Victor prospects (AFRI 2.55658).

Lithology Comments

Mar 10, 2011 (J Bongfelt) - Many carbonate dykes; NE trending zone of quartz stringers, 600 feet long by 80 to 100 feet wide. (Kenora Historical File 52F/05SE00007, Meston)

Sep 26, 2017 (Therese Pettigrew) - The Meston Prospect is in a quartz-carbonate-pyrite breccia. The wall rock at Meston consists of silicified basalt and intermediate tuff in the hanging wall, while the footwall is dominated by mafic dolerite. A shear zone consisting of chlorite-sericite schist was encountered in the footwall in a few holes (AFRI 2.55658).

Mar 10, 2011 (J Bongfelt) - '….in 1986, channel samples from breccia-veins assayed up to 0.2 oz./ton Au. (OFR 5713, Meston Prospect, p.115) Re: 1981 - Nolan Lake Exploration Inc. DD 81-8: 0.245 oz./ton Au & DD 81-11: 0.11 oz./ton Au (claim #527559) (Kenora AF 52F/05SE, II-6, Nolan Lake Exploration Inc., diamond drill logs) Re: 1973 - Canex drilled three DD holes, DD R-3 (claim K-346460): trace to 0.32 oz./ton Au (Kenora AF 52F/05SE, G-1, Canex Placer Ltd., diamond drill logs & Kenora AF 52F/05SE, A-1, Aggressive Mining Ltd.) 'Gold values occur in a lacework of ankerite-quartz. A NE trending zone of quartz stringers defined by trenching is 180m (600 ft.) long by 24.30m (80-100 ft.) wide with an indicated grade of just under 3.4 g/t (0.10 oz/ton) Au. Averages of channel samples across one trench gave 5.90 g/t (0.172 oz/ton) Au across 6.1m (20.1 ft.) and 4.94 g/t (0.144 oz/ton) Au across 6.7m (22 ft.). (Kenora Historical File F05/05SE00007, Meston - Doc. SMDR 001440 and MDC 16, p.27)

Sep 26, 2017 (Therese Pettigrew) - The Meston Prospect comprises a quartz-carbonate-pyrite breccia similar to that which hosts the mineralization at the Company’s Cameron Gold Deposit. A second style of gold mineralisation at Meston is represented by veinlets emanating from the breccia vein into the surrounding wallrock display sericite-(Fe) carbonate altered selvedges and associated pyrite. Akin to the Cameron Gold deposit, there is a strong correlation between pyrite content and gold mineralization at the Meston prospect. Canex Placer’s 1973 drill program produced an intercept of 3.11 gpt Au over 6.4 m. The 2011 drill program was successful in identifying and delineating a shallowly west plunging rod-shaped breccia vein 1-3 m in thickness. The gold mineralized zone at Meston was followed along strike with diamond drilling for 380 m, with mineralization remaining open to the west. Assays from the 2011 drill program include 6.27 ppm in NMD-11-004, 11.4 ppm Au in NMD-11-008, 3.02 ppm Au in NMD-11-008, 6.53 ppm Au in NMD-11-009, 5.08 ppm in NMD-11-013, 5.6 ppm Au in NMD-11-028 (AFRI 2.55658).
