Exploration History

The presence of a five-stamp mill, now in ruins, at the site of the Roseman-Thompson gold showing suggests this discovery was made sometime in the late 1800s or early 1900s. 1942: claim was staked by prospectors Thompson and Roseman. 1943: Sylvanite Gold Mines conducted sampling. 1988: Caliban Resources Inc. conducted soil sampling, VLF-EM and magnetometer surveying, trenching, sampling, and geological mapping. 1989: Caliban conducted trenching and sampling. 1990: Caliban drilled 3 DDH totalling 176.5 m. 2008: Canadian Arrow Mines Ltd. conducted geological mapping and sampling.

Lithology Comments

Oct 10, 2017 (Therese Pettigrew) - The Roseman-Thompson gold showing is hosted in a discontinuous vein zone, which consists of lenses of cherty to grey quartz. The wallrock is an altered basaltic rock or fine-grained gabbro, sheared, epidotize, chloritized, and has, in spots, a bleached appearance probably due to the introduction of ankerite and sericite (AFRI 52F05SE0506).

Mineralization Comments

Oct 10, 2017 (C Ravnaas) - Grade: trace to 0.09 opt Au.

Oct 10, 2017 (Therese Pettigrew) - The Roseman-Thompson gold showing is located on the north shore of Isinglass Lake. This quartz vein structure has been developed locally by 9 trenches along a strike length of 50 m. It is not exposed on either extremity. The vein zone appears to be discontinuous. The quartz veining is parallel to sub-parallel to the enclosing schistosity. One vein of quartz carrying fine hematite occurs in the central sector of the previously trenched zone. This zone trends between 110-160 degrees in an arcuate form with dips steeply to the south. The ruins of a former 5-stamp mill are in evidence. One to two tons of quartz are present in a dump at the stamp millsite. Sample D0111 was taken from Trench D and assayed 0.521 opt Au (16.2 gpt Au) and 0.50 opt Ag. A large grey quartz vein structure is located about 750 m east of the Roseman-Thompson gold showing and about 100 m north of Isinglass Lake. This structure strikes 330 degrees and dips steeply south. The host rock is a chloritized and bleached andesite that is schistose to the trend of the quartz vein structure. Sparse chalcopyrite and pyrite occur in small scattered patches. This vein assayed up to 3370 ppm Cu and 118 ppb Au (AFRI 52F05SE0506). Caliban Resources’ DDH 2 assayed 0.93 gpt Au over 0.7 m, in a chloritized gabbro containing 2% pyrite and pyrrhotite (AFRI 20000004085).
