Exploration History

1908-1911: A vertical, two compartment shaft sunk to 77.7 m (255 ft) with levels at 30.3, 47. 2 and 71.6 m (100, 155 and 235 ft ). A total of 331.6 m (1,088 ft) of drifting and crosscutting was done (418 m or 1,372 ft. according to some references). On the 71.6 m (235 ft) level, the drift was driven 155 m (509 ft) to the NW, and 104.6 m (343 ft) to SE. Work by Detola Development Co. Ltd. 1910-1911: A ten stamp mill erected on the property by Detola Development Co. 1914: Examined by Germerica Mining Co. Ltd. 1936- 1937: Dewatering and examination by Tecumseh Gold Mines Ltd. 1956-1957: 3 diamond drill holes totalling 58 m (190 ft) by Otonabee Prospecting and Developing Syndicate.

Lithology Comments

Feb 24, 2010 (C Ravnaas) - Early Precambrian massive mafic volcanics serve as host country rocks for the NE trending zone of chlorite and sericite schist which contains the gold bearing quartz vein. The rock assemblage belongs to Superior Structural Province. The vein on which the shaft was sunk contains tourmaline, carbonate, pyrite and native gold. A grab sample taken from the dump in 1933 assayed 3.1 g/t (0 .09 oz/ton) of gold. One vein was reported to run 19.9 g/t (0.58 oz/ton). Blackburn (1979) reported that rock on the dump is chloritic to sericitic schist and metabasalt country rock. He suggested that the small outcrop of schistose felsic rock immediately north of the head frame may be an extension of the felsite unit at the Paymaster Mine. (Historical Files, F07NE00003, SMDR#001410, Kenora Resident Geologist Office) The property is underlain by massive greenstone along the shore of Kabagukski Lake there le a northeast trending zone of chlorite and sericite schist. The vein on which the shaft was sunk contains a little tourmaline, carbonate and sulphide, chiefly pyrite. A grab sample taken from the dump by Thomson in 1933 assayed 0.09 oz. gold/ton. Feb 24, 2010 (C Ravnaas) - MILLCAP: 10 STAMP MILL, SPECULATIVE TONNAGE: 10,000 T @ 0.09 OPT AU AND 5,000 T @ 0.09 OPT AU (DUMP) (OGS 1981). This property was first worked by the Detola Development Co. in 1908. Development started on a quartz vein on location H.W. 411 about one mile east of the Laurentian mine. A vertical, two compartment shaft was sunk to 255 feet and levels were established at 155 feet and 235 feet. A total of 1,088 feet of drifting and crosscutting was done. On the 235 level the drift was driven 509 feet to the northwest and 343 feet to the southeast, on this level a one foot wide quartz vein, which assayed at $12 per ton in gold, was cut 436 feet northwest of the shaft. In 1910 the mill was moved from the Glass Reef Mine (52 F/7, Au 8) and erected on the Detola property. However there is no record that ore was run through the mill. The operation closed down in 1911. In 1914 the property was acquired by the Germencia Mining Co. of Berlin, Cermany. This company examined the workings but was forced to discontinue their operation due to the war. In 1936 Tecumseh Gold Mines, Ltd., took over a block of claims which included the old Detola mine which they dewatered and examined. Some diamond drilling wee planned from the 235 foot level but this operation was closed in early 1937. The property is underlain by massive greenstone along the shore of Kabagukski Lake there le a northeast trending zone of chlorite and sericite schist. The vein on which the shaft was sunk contains a little tourmaline, carbonate and sulphide, chiefly pyrite. A grab sample taken from the dump by Thomson in 1933 assayed 0.09 oz. gold/ton.
