Feb 24, 2010 (C Ravnaas) - Early Precambrian metamorphosed andesite forms country rocks for two parallel, gold-bearing quartz veins which cross claim S 40 in N40°E direction. The entire assemblage belongs to Superior Structural Province. Two shafts have been sunk on the vein system and in no. 1 an ore shoot 33 cm (13 inches) wide has been sampled to the depth of 18.6 m (61 ft.). The assay results were 70 g/t (2 oz/t) of gold and the vein can be traced for 400 m (1,300 f t.). Number two vein is reported to be similar and can be traced for 240 m (800 ft.). It is located 107 m (350 ft.) SE of no. 1. The quartz here has been described as lying in and with the trap formation and is therefore lenticular, with an average width of 0.3 m (1 ft.). Blackburn (1979) did not find t he vein or shaft in 1975, but he found the immediate area to be underlain by pillowed mafic flows. Mineralization Comments

Feb 24, 2010 (C Ravnaas) - GRADE: BEST ASSAY - 2.0 OPT AU OVER 32.5 CM. The property consists of one patented mining claim, S 40, and 15 unpatented contiguous claims. The group is located about 3.2 kilometres northeast of Gold Rock, a small settlement at the northeast end of Trafalgar Bay of Upper Manitou Lake. Claim S 40 was acquired in 1902 by the Volcanic Reef Company, Limited. The following year development began under the direction of the Twentieth Century Mining Company, Limited. Two shafts were sunk: No. 1 to 325 feet, with levels established , and a small amount of lateral development carried out at the 100, 200 and 300 foot horizons; and No. 2, located 500 feet south of No.1, to a depth of 85 feet. Work on the property ceased prior to 1910, and in 1917, the Volcanic Reef Company, limited, was declared bankrupt. Its assets were sold in 1919. In 1937, Wheeler Fraction Mining Syndicate Limited acquired claim S 40, and an attempt was made to re-open the mine. New camps and other buildings were constructed; a new shaft collar installed ; a headframe erected; and the shaft retimbered to water level at a depth of 60 feet. Operations were suspended following the outbreak of World War 2, and the property has been idle since. Early in 1965, United New Fortune Mines Limited announced their intention of purchasing claim S 40 along with 15 contiguous unpatented claims. Early Precambrian metamorphosed andesite forms country rocks for two parallel, gold-bearing quartz veins which cross claim S 40 in N40°E direction. The entire assemblage belongs to Superior Structural Province.
