Pre 1933: A pit was opened up on the quartz vein on claim S.V. 343 by Mr. Watson. 1933: Sampling and assaying of a few grab samples taken from claims K 2955 and K 2954. Work by Jonas Wetelainen. 1933: Claim S.V. 343 held by Watson while claims K 2956, K 2955, K 2954 held by Jonas Wetelainen of Goldrock. 1938: Some of Wetelainen claims re-staked by Charles Merrill and Frank Gaffney. Feb 22, 2010 (C Ravnaas) - Early Precambrian massive andesites form country rocks for auriferous veins and lenses of quartz, and belong to Superior Structural Province. The quartz veins cut the andesite and quartz itself is white, vitreous with a small quantity of pyrite as well as pockets of gold. A vein, on claim S.V. 343 strikes N300E and dips 75° SE. It is reported to be 1.5 m (5 ft) wide and outcrops again 30 m (100 ft) SW of the creek. Here the quartz is 1.2 m (4 ft) wide with trace of sulphides, occurring in the schistose wall rock. A sample chipped across 1.5 m (5 ft) contained only a trace of gold. No visible native gold in pockets, as previously reported in 1933. It may have been true, however the pocket gold occurrence may have been a localized feature. On SE corner of claim K 2955 a large quartz vein occurs in massive andesite. It is about 20 m (60 it) long and 0.3 m (1 ft) wide. An assay from a sample taken from this vein claimed $3.60 in gold with price in 1933 being $28.60 per ounce. (0.13 oz/ton of Au which is 4.3 g/t of Au). At the center of the claim K 2954, a small pocket of very rich native gold was found in a vein of quartz and mineralized schist. A sample taken across 2 m (6 ft) of vein material at the spot from which the gold-bearing samples had been removed assayed $1.40 per ton of gold, or 1.7 g/t (0.05 oz/t) Au. with price of gold fixed at $28.60 per ounce. (Historical File 52F07SW00005, SMDR#001422, Kenora Resident Geologist Office) In 1933 Thomson reported on two adjoining properties south and east of Beck Lake. On the Watson claim (S.V. 343) a quartz vein, five feet wide had test pitted. Spectacular free gold was reported to have come from the pit but a chip sample taken by Thomson yielded no gold. On Jonas Wetelainen's claim, K. 2,955, a quartz vein one foot wide had been traced 60 feet. Mr. Wetelainen reported an assay of about 0.10 ounces of gold per ton from this vein. On claim K. 2,954, a small pocket of very rich gold ore was taken from a lens ot quartz and mineralized schist. A six foot sample taken at this point by Thomson assayed 0.04 ounces of gold per ton. The area around Beck Lake is underlain by massive andesite. This rock is cut by numerous short veins and lenses of quartz. The white, vitreous, quartz carries a small quantity of pyrite and small rich pockets of quartz were reported. (Historical File 52F07SW00005, EMR#502617, Kenora Resident Geologist Office)
