Point Location Description: Transfer

Location Method: Conversion from MDI

Access Description: The Manitou Lake property consists of 215 contiguous mining claims in the Manitou Lake region of northwestern Ontario, 45 km south of Dryden, Ontario. The property is within NTS Quandrangle 52F/7 and the claims are recorded on Lower Manitou Lake claim map G-2683, Harper Lake claim map G-2584 and the Boyer Lake claim map G-2572. (see Figures 1 and 2). Access to the property is afforded by float and/or ski equipped aircraft provided by Swanair Ltd. of Dryden, Ontario. Two subsidiary routes originate from Hwy. 812; a narrow 5 mile trail passable in winter follows along the north shore of Kabagukski (Mud) Lake terminating at the Goldrock (Manitou Landing) townsite; a 10 mile all weather lumber road connects the northern end of Upper Manitou Lake at Jonas (Bell) Lake to Hwy 812. This road has not been used in recent years and is in poor repair particularly within 1.5 miles of Jonas Lake. Accommodation is available during spring, summer and fall months at Camp Baribeau located on Trafalgar Bay; at the Manitou Lake Lodge located at the Goldrock townsite and Green Island Lodge which is situated at the northern end of the Manitou Straits stretch. (Assessment File 52F07SW U-4, St. Joe Canada Inc, Kenora Resident Geologist Office)

Exploration History

1900 -1902: A 27m deep shaft was sunk to investigate a shear zone in felsic volcanic rocks on the northwest shore of Manitou Straits. 1933: Test pits were dug to evaluate three quartz veins on Frenchman Island. A chip sample from the main vein gave 0.13 oz/ton gold ore over 0.9 m. 1970: Freeport Canadian Exploration carried out an airborne E.M. survey over the Manitou Straits area. Diamond drilling and overburden drilling were used to evaluate the massive sulphide potential of a number of conductors located in the vicinity of the Manitou Lakes. 1972: The whole of Frenchman Island was included in a ten claim group staked in 1972 by prospector James McNeil. 1980: The Ontario Government sponsored a Tridem airborne survey over the Manitou Lake area. No significant E.M. anomalies were located on or in the vicinity of the St. Joe Property. (Assessment File 52F07SW U-4, St. Joe Canada Inc, Kenora Resident Geologist Office)

Geology

Province: Superior

Subprovince: Wabigoon

Terrane: Western Wabigoon

Belt: Eagle-Wabigoon-Manitou

Geological Age: Precambrian

Geology Comments

Feb 23, 2010 (C Ravnaas) - The property lies in the Manitou-Stormy Lakes Archean Greenstone Belt. The most recently published geology is O.G.S. Report 202 (1981) by C. Blackburn. The Manitou-Stormy Lake area is characterized by a thick volcanic sequence, consisting of mafic to felsic flow and pyroclastic rocks and minor volcaniclastic rocks, and a sedimentary sequence, part of the Manitou "Series" of Thomson, intruded by mafic to felsic rocks of batholithic, stock, and sill-like form (after-Blackburn 1979).

Lithology Comments

Jul 07, 2022 (C Ravnaas) - The Reliance grid covers the west edge of a small granodiorite stock which intrudes predominantly tholeittic iron rich basalt flows, which form part of the Blanchard Lake group. These rocks are cut by a prominent mineralized north-trending shear zone (Assessment File 52F07SW U-4, St. Joe Canada Inc, Kenora Resident Geologist Office)

Mineralization Comments

Feb 23, 2010 (C Ravnaas) - Assay: 1406 ppb Au from grab. The zone consists of sulphide-bearing, carbonatized chlorite schist cut by discontinuous quartz-carbonate veins and lenses. Gold mineralization is associated with predominantly pyrite and, to a lesser extent, pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite and sphalerite. The zone is exposed by seven old exploration shafts sunk near the turn of the century. The Reliance Grid is underlain by the Blanchard Lake Group basalts. These occupy the tightly folded east limb of the Manitou Anticline and unconformably underlie the Upper Manitou Lake Group. They have been intruded by the Carleton Lake granodiorite stock which includes most of the shoreline of Carleton Lake situated on the eastern margin of the survey area. The Reliance grid covers an attractive structurally controlled environment for gold mineralization. The mineralization is associated with a 1200m long shear on which little exploration has been carried out since the early 1900s. It is recommended that an I.P. and magnetometer survey be carried out to evaluate the 'prominent Reliance shear zone and define drill targets.
