Exploration History

1974: Discovered, staked and trenched by G.L. Pidgeon. 1975: Kerr Addison Mines Limited optioned the property and conducted geological mapping, a magnetometer survey, and surface sampling, followed by four diamond-drill holes totalling 404 m (1326 feet). 1983-85: A. Glatz re-staked the property and conducted sampling, stripping and extensive trenching. A. Glatz extracted an 80 ton sample. 1986: Noranda Exploration Ltd. mapped and sampled.

Geology Comments

Jan 21, 2010 (J Bongfelt) - The G.L. Pidgeon property is limited in its gold potential, but may be worth custom milling if a good grade can be obtained from a reasonably large=tonnage. The northeast trending shear zone in which the prospect occurs, is associated with an en echelon set of north-east trending faults, which extend from Upper Manitou Lake through Dinorwic Lake. The area around the Pidgeon Prospect should be thoroughly prospected for wide, carbonatized shear zones striking northeast-southwest and hosting altered and deformed felsic dikes or quartz-carbonate veins. Humus or soil sampling may be a useful prospecting technique due to the thick overburden cover in the area. (Kenora Property Visit File, F09NW00007, Pidgeon-Showing A)

Lithology Comments

Jan 21, 2010 (J Bongfelt) - The Pidgeon-Avery Township Prospect, located north-northwest of Avery Lake, is similar to the other deposits in the area since it consists of a 30m wide shear zone striking 040°-042° within mafic metavolcanic flows. However, the shear zone does not host wide quartz veins, but instead intensely sheared, felsic, quartz-feldspar porphyry dikes and brecciated, silicified, carbonate zones. Berger et al. observed that the gold-bearing zone was located at the intersection of a northeast-trending lineament with an east-northeast-trending lineament. Berger et al. contend that gold appears to correlate closely with the east-northeast-trending lineament even though the northeast-trending lineament appears to be the dominant structure. Strong iron carbonate alteration is restricted to the shear zone which hosts -numerous quartz-carbonate veinlets controlled by narrow fractures crosscutting the shear. The breccia zones are parallel to the shear, and consist of carbonatized. buff-white. brown. and green, angular fragments of host rock in a quartz-carbonate matrix. Gold mineralization is associated with the quartz-carbonate veinlets and widespread. fine-grained. disseminated pyrite in the mafic metavolcanics and breccia zones. (OFR5723, p.64-65)

Mineralization Comments

Jan 21, 2010 (J Bongfelt) - Au above grade assay results ranged from 580 to 17,000 (ppb) Geology Showing 'A' Noranda, Sample #3696 (Assessment File 52F09NW M-7) The highest assay values obtained (up to 17.0 g/t) occur within an intensely silicified zone which averages 0.25m in width, located near the center of the showing (0+20N, 0+12W). An assay of 0.10 opt over 5.0ft obtained in Kerr Addison's Hole No.1, corresponds directly with the highest values obtained on surface. (Assessment File 52F09NW M-3) Assay Results (2007): a) 6514 Au (ppb) found in a Breccia zone. Fragments are silicified; quartz occurs between fragments, as blebs and within fractures in fragments. 3 to 5% fine-grained pyrite in quartz-bearing material; 5% calcite as blebs or disseminated in quartz. b) 1137 Au (ppb) found in a Breccia zone. White quartz veins cut pre-existing silicification; quartz veins in randomly oriented fractures. 1% fine-grained pyrite; no carbonate. c) 837 Au (ppb) found in unaltered mafic metavolcanic rock. These white quartz veins extend from the breccia zone into surrounding mafic metavolcanic rocks. 1% fine-grained pyrite; no carbonate. (OFR 6216, p.24)

Aug 02, 2022 (Q Unknown) - 1985: A. Glatz extracted an 80 ton sample with an average assay of 0.16 to 0.20 oz. Au/ton. (Kenora Property Visit File, 52F09NW00007, Pidgeon-Showing A; OFR6216, p.23). 1986: The highest assay values obtained by Noranda (up to 17.0 g/t) occur within an intensely silicified zone which averages 0.25m in width, located near the center of the showing (0+20N, 0+12W). An assay of 0.10 opt over 5.0ft obtained in Kerr Addison's Hole No.1, corresponds directly with the highest values obtained on surface. (Assessment File 52F09NW M-3). Au above grade assay results ranged from 580 to 17,000 (ppb) Geology Showing 'A' Noranda, Sample #36961 (Assessment File 52F09NW M-7)
