Exploration History

1956: claim group staked in October by Harry Byberg of Kenora. It was staked to tie onto the north side of the claim group staked by W.A. Johnston and Martin Jeness of Kenora; they staked a small showing of copper and nickel southeast of Nabish Lake. Samples from the showing contained no more then 20% sulphides (pyrite, pyrrhotite, chalcopyrity). Jeness informed that the mineralization was about 7 feet wide and roughly 35 feet long. The best grab sample returned 89% Cu-Ni. * Immediately after staking, the group was optioned to Preston East Dome. Both Johnston and Janess say Dome did no surface work but drilled two short holes under the showing. Dome's endineer reported verbally to Johnston they obtained a 0.75% combined Cu-Ni assay, but no footage was given. (Kenora Historical File F10NW00152, Nabish Lake Southeast) 1962: Gerald E. Cooper reports that claims K-33422 to K-33433 (K-33432-33), Contact Bay claim map #M-2737, were staked to cover an interesting aeromagnetic anomaly which is outlined on Map 1154G, Wabigoon sheet of the G.S.C. aeromagnetic map series. Three days were spent examining the outcrops on the claim group and surrounding area. * see the following Kenora Assessment file for interesting geological data. (Kenora Assessment File 52F/10NW, V-6, Nabish Lake Property (Contact Bay) 1966: four claims (K-39716 to K-39719) were held under option by Latin American Mines Ltd. from A. Kozowy of Dryden, ON. A find of Ni-Cu sulfides disseminated in gabbro was made during the summer of 1966, and the three trenches were put down then. (Kenora Assessment File 52F/10NW, P-1, Latin America Mines Ltd.) 1999: Claim 1237398 - South-east of Nabish Lake an outcrop of mineralized diorite was stripped by hand and a grid was cut with a power saw. Four pits/trenches were blasted to facilitate sampling. (Kenora Assessment File 52F/10NW, F-4, Glatz, Alex - Nabish Lake)

Geology

Province: Superior

Geological Age: Precambrian

Geology Comments

May 11, 2010 (J Bongfelt) - The area south of Dryden is underlain by the Lower Wabigoon lakes Volcanics (Trowel et al. 1980). The metavolcanic rocks face northward and are bounded by the Atikwa Batholith to the south and the Wabigoon Fault to the north (Parker and Schienbein 1985). The metavolcanics are intruded by gabbro, diorite and quartz-diorite plugs, stocks and sills, intermediate and mafic dikes, felsic dikes and a late diabase dike of regional extent. (Kenora Assessment File 52F/10NW, F-4, Glatz, Alex - Nabish Lake)

Lithology Comments

May 11, 2010 (J Bongfelt) - The project area lies at the contact between the Lower Wabigoon Lake Volcanics and the east lobe of the Atikwa Lake Batholith. Gabbro, diorite, grano-diorite and mafic volcanics are mineralized to some extent. The gabbro has a magnetic signature and hosts the higher grade (more than 3% Ni & 4% Cu) mineralization. Copper is found in gabbro, diorite, intermediate volcanics and also in grano-diorite. (Kenora Assessment File 52F/10NW, F-4, Glatz, Alex - Nabish Lake)

Mineralization Comments

May 11, 2010 (J Bongfelt) - 1956 - A showing located east, south-east of Nabish Lake consisted of sulphides in sheared, altered gabbro near the gabbro-granite contact. Grab samples of the sulphide mineralization returned assay values of 1.56% Cu and 0.3% Ni. (Shklanka 1969). (Kenora Historical File F10NW00152, Nabish Lake Southeast) 1962 - Johnston and Jeness staked a small showing of copper and nickel east, south-east of Nabish Lake; best grab sample returned 0.89% combined Cu-Ni. Two short holes were drilled under the showing shortly after when the claim group was optioned to Preston East Dome, and they verbally reported to Johnston that they obtained a 0.75% combined Cu-Ni assay, but no footage was given. All drill core was removed from the property. 1966 - The main trench on the showing immediately southeast of Nabish Lake produced assays about 0.3% Cu and 0.2% Ni for a trench length of 35 feet. (Kenora Assessment File 52F/10NW, P-1, Latin America Mines Ltd.) 1999 - Alex Glatz received assay results of 3600 ppm Cu from Trench #1, and 5010 ppm Cu & 1410 ppm Ni from Trench #4 on the showing immediately southeast of Nabish Lake.
