Access Description: The Sovereign Peak Lake Prospect, in the Turtlepond Lake area, is located north of Sasakwei Lake and west of Peak Lake, approximately 40 km southeast of Dryden. The Sovereign Property is situated northeast of the former Goldrock mining camp. The prospect is accessible by overgrown drill roads which branch east from Highway 502. (OFR5723, p.286)

Exploration History

1981: W. Sovereign stripped and assayed grab samples that resulted in impressive numbers, encouraging further work. 1982: W. Sovereign staked over and around an old mining claim (K.624) and conducted stripping, lithogeochemical sampling, and humus sampling. 1983: Asamera Incorporated optioned the property and conducted humus sampling, lithogeochemical sampling, geological mapping, magnetometer and V.L.F.- E.M. ground geophysical surveys, and diamond drilling. 1984: Asamera Inc. terminated the option agreement and returned the claims to the owner. 1984: W. Sovereign continued prospecting, sampling, and stripping and discovered 3 new gold occurrences. 1985: J. Parker, MNR Geologist, prospected and sampled the property and assayed economic results *see Mineralization under Deposit Comment. (Kenora AF 52F/10SE Y-2, p.6 and OFR5723, p.287)

Geology

Province: Superior

Geological Age: Precambrian

Lithology Comments

Mar 05, 2010 (J Bongfelt) - The Sovereign showing consists of a mineralized, 0.5 to 1.0 m wide, milk-white quartz vein, which dips steeply to the east and strikes 350? across a 10 m wide shear zone. Narrow east-trending quartz veinlets extend for several metres from the main vein. The vein terminates abruptly at its southeastern extremity, whereas at the northwestern end it becomes increasingly irregular and narrow. The shear zone strikes east and dips steeply north within medium-grained, chloritic metabasalts. The sheared rock is sericitic with intense iron carbonate alteration, hematite staining, and fine disseminated pyrite. Alteration drops off abruptly to the northwest. The quartz vein contains fragments of chloritic mafic rock and disseminated tourmaline, pyrite, chalcopyrite, and malachite. The chalcopyrite is most abundant at the northwestern end of the vein and is associated with gold. (OFR5723, p.286). This MDI is deemed a prospect re: 'all six holes drilled here cut the same lithologies, consisting of variably sheared locally plagioclase-phyric fine grained metabasalts.' 'The shearing associated with the Sovereign quartz veining, however, causes considerable warping of the foliation, strong chloritization and concentration of sulphides. The shearing is more extensive within the hanging wall intersections. Elsewhere the basalt is competent with no significant younger or open structures. Fracturing averages 2 or 3 per metre. Thin quartz-carbonate veinlets and hairline carbonate stringers are common. (Kenora AF 52F/10SE Z-4, p.12).

Mineralization Comments

Mar 05, 2010 (J Bongfelt) - A grab sample from the main vein, taken by the author (1985), assayed 12.46 ounces gold per ton and 0.74% copper. The south limb on the main vein assayed 0.076 oz./t Au, 80cm chip, wall rock, schist. Another grab sample assayed 12.46 oz./t Au, quartz with chalcopyrite. Queries were made with Goldlund Mines re custom milling; as a result, a head sample was analyzed and ore was deemed acceptable for custom milling - an average of four assays gave 71.2 g/t Au. The east limb on the main vein assayed 0.139 oz/t Au (grab); and, the west limb assayed a grab at 0.043 oz/t Au (Kenora AF 52F/10SE Y-2, p.6). Asamera's assays ranged from trace to 2.13 ounces gold per ton over a 40 cm width, and 3.43 ounces gold per ton over a 35 cm width. (OFR5723, p.286). Wm. J. Sovereign assayed grab samples from the rock pile and from the main vein, running approx. 5 to 20 inches wide. Results were impressive with 4.85, 3.28, and 3.42, 6.8, 2.3, .55, .37, and .17 oz/t Au. Also, some grab samples assayed 0.55%, 0.38%, and 0.47% Copper. (Kenora AF 52F/10SE Y-3, p.2,6,7). Prospect status determined by: DOH SV83-3 cut the east-west quartz vein system 25m below surface, 10m west of the fold nose projection, encountering 2 narrow crackseal veins within a 25 cm zone at 25.75 to 26.0m downhole. These assayed 0.032 oz Au/ton over 25 cm. (Kenora AF 52F/10SE Z-4, p.12). Prospect status determined by: The final Sovereign zone drillhole, SV83-6, was a second attempt at locating the thickened fold nose at 50m downdip. Only a narrow (l0cm) vein was intersected, containing 2-3% pyrite and 1% chalcopyrite; assaying 0.18 oz Au/ton, 1.10 oz Ag/ton, the highest assay values obtained in all of the drillholes. (Kenora AF 52F/10SE Z-4, p.13).
