Exploration History

1900: 51 ft. deep shaft was sunk on a quartz vein but the shaft was flooded and further work was terminated. 1925: Shaft cleaned out and retimbered. 1947: Four holes drilled on the property by Mr. H. Hawes and Mr. F. Joubin. 1982: Staked by B. Perry. 1983: Transferred to Atikwa Resources Incorporated who conducted geophysical surveys over the property. 1985: Staked by A. Glatz. 1986-1987: Transferred to International Platinum Corporation who conducted an extensive diamond drill program on the property. (OFR 5723, p.250-251)

Geology Comments

Nov 02, 2010 (J Bongfelt) - The prospect is situated within massive mafic and intermediate metavqlcanic flows of the Upper Wabigoon Volcanics. (OFR 5723, p.250)

Lithology Comments

Nov 02, 2010 (J Bongfelt) - Narrow [ <0.3 m] but relatively continuous gold-bearing quartz veins are controlled by an east-trending shear zone in fisSile, chloritic, and intensely iron carbonatized mafic metavolcanic flows. Narrow felsite dikes also intrude the shear zone. Very little can be seen of the geology and old workings, since the majority of outcrop has been covered by landfill. A small cottage has been built over the old shaft. (OFR 5723, p.250) 'The second type of mineralization consists of disseminated and pod like pyrite and pyrrhotite, locally with minor amounts of chalcopyrite and sphalerite, and is associated with white and grey quartz veins ranging from less than one inch to eight inches. This mineralization and veining is epigenetic and accompanied by gold values from 0.40 to 3.9 oz/ton; visible gold was observed at several places. Sulphide enriched and silicified bands up to several feet in width are also classified with this second type, although no economic grades of gold were found in these bands.' (Assessment File 52F11NE EE-1, DD Program Report, Oct.-Nov. 2986, pg.9)

Mineralization Comments

Nov 02, 2010 (J Bongfelt) - No samples were taken by the author but visible gold was observed in the quartz pebbles on the gravel beach. Visible gold was panned from the quartz veins by R. Thomson (1941). Drilling by Mr. H. Hawes intersected quartz veins up to 5 ft. wide which were reported to contain visible gold. Samples of the quartz veins taken by Mr. Hawes assayed between 1.0 and 3.0 ounces gold per ton (Assessment Files, Resident Geologist's Office, Kenora). Recent drilling by International Platinum Corporation intersected two, east-trending, 2 inch to 5 inch wide quartz veins assaying up to 1.66 ounces gold per ton for a continuous strike length of 430 ft. The drilling also intersected a 4 inch section of slightly pyritic, black, interflow chert which assayed 0.12 ounce gold per ton (Assessment Files. Resident Geologist's Office, Kenora). (OFR 5723, p.250) '…This mineralization and veining is epigenetic and accompanied by gold values from 0.40 to 3.9 oz/ton; visible gold was observed at several places. Sulphide enriched and silicified bands up to several feet in width are also classified with this second type, although no economic grades of gold were found in these bands.' (Assessment File 52F11NE EE-1, DD Program Report, Oct.-Nov. 2986, pg.9) 'The No. '2 vein was intersected in all holes with the exception of hole No.1. Visible gold was observed in all intersections except in hole No.5. Width of the vein varies from 2 to 4 inches. There is little doubt that the No.2 vein outcrops on the small peninsula south of hole No.3, where it assayed up to 3.9 oz/ton. It can also be traced westwards on the westside of the cove south of hole No.1. Thus reaching an open strike length at surface of over 430 ft. Despite its limited width, drilling has traced the vein down to a vertical depth of 386 ft (hole No.6).' (Assessment File 52F11NE EE-1, DD Program Report, Oct.-Nov. 2986, pg.10)
