Point Location Description: Precise
Location Method: Conversion from MDI
Access Description: Point Location: Located approx. 21 miles west-southwest of Dryden, about 13 miles south-southeast of the community of Vermilion Bay. Surface sampling & drilling took place mostly at the northeastern tip of North Twin Island, Eagle Lake, precise.
Exploration History: * The iron formation extends East from Net Island (Garnet Bay Sheet 52F/11NW) across to North Twin Island & further east toward Poplar Island (Buchan Bay Sheet 52F/11NE), Eagle Lake. The Fe extension is based on a mag survey and drilling by Steeprock Iron Mines Ltd., 1955. This deposit was first opened up in 1910-11 as a possible source of iron. Development consisted of stripping, test pitting, some diamond drilling, and the sinking of a small shaft for about 300 feet where a 21 foot width of pyrite was exposed in a test pit. * see “Deposit Comment - Mineralization” for assay results. In 1955, Steep Rock Iron Mines Limited carried out a mag survey and diamond drilled 4 holes totalling 2,600 feet. Between North Twin Island and Poplar Island, two zones were outlined, one 2,400 feet long and the other 2,000 feet long. Drilling intersected 1.5 feet, 5.5 feet and 1.0 foot of magnetite, pyrite and chert. (contents of: Kenora Historical File 52F/11NE00043)

Dec 13, 2010 (J Bongfelt) - Lithology 'A discontinuous, E-trending iron formation zone, Algoma type, oxide and sulphide facies, containing pyrite, magnetite, hematite, limonite, some chalcopyrite with chert, cuts Archean chloritic schist which in places appears to grade into massive greenstone. One pyrite vein on Net Island varies from 4 to 12 feet wide. (Kenora Historical File 52F/11NE00043 - NMI File)

Dec 13, 2010 (J Bongfelt) - Mineralization Development consisted of stripping, test pitting, some diamond drilling, and the sinking of a small shaft for about 300 feet where a 21 foot width of pyrite was exposed in a test pit. A sample from this pit assayed 23.85% S, 53.23% Fe; 0.44% Zn and 0.05% Cu. To the west of the shaft, a gossan was exposed on strike. Samples taken Nov., 1976 @ precise location: 49º 41' 12” Lat & 93º 14' 30” Long (Kenora Historical File 52F/11NE00043 - NMI File)
