Exploration History

1954: Falconbridge Nickel Mines Limited staked a group of claims between Lava and Easter Chicken Lakes, on which geological and geophysical surveys were conducted. Fourteen inclined holes were drilled, totaling 6,415 feet. 1956: aeroelectromagnetic, aeromagnetic, aeroradiometric, ground magnetic and electromagnetic surveys, and drilling by Falconbridge Nickel Mines Ltd. 1969: electromagnetic and geological surveys, drilling by MJ. Lithology Comments

Feb 15, 2011 (J Bongfelt) - Geology Disseminated and streaky pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite, and pyrite in greenstone occurs in an area midway between Lava and Easter Chicken lakes. A band of sediments and greenstones strikes northeast from Populus Lake. The band is up to ten miles wide at the north end of Populus Lake, where the Kenbridge mine is located. Further north, in the vicinity of Fisher Lake, it is not as wide. (Ken ora Historical File 52F12SE00008, Boylen)

Feb 15, 2011 (J Bongfelt) - A chip sample of sheared Early Precambrian gabbro with pyrite, assayed 0.03% Cu, 0.02% Ni and .49% S. (Kenora Historical File 52FI2SE00008, Boylen)
