Lithology Comments

Nov 27, 2017 (Therese Pettigrew) - The shaft and Number 1 zones occur at or near the contact of the quartz porphyry with schistose and massive fine-grained mafic metavolcanics on the southern part of the island. This contact is sheared and carbonatized over varying widths up to 150 ft. Gold-bearing quartz veins and stringer zones accompanied by much mariposite and pyrite also occur along this contact over a distance of more than 1300 feet (Johnston, 1972).

Mineralization Comments

Nov 27, 2017 (Therese Pettigrew) - Mineralization consists of gold, pyrite, chalcopyrite, sphalerite, and galena. The sulphides are often disseminated in the gold-quartz veins and also occur as replacement blebs and fillings in chloritic schist. The strike of the main shears are N55E to N70E and dips are 70 to 80 NW. A strong shearing about 300 feet wide is exposed in places along the north shore of Pickerel Arm and continues across the south part of Burnthut Island (AFRI 52G13NW0031). Noranda’s 1985 sampling program returned assays of up to 0.24 opt Au (7.46 gpt Au) in Zone 1 (AFRI 52G13NW0006). The best core sections from drilling done between 1947 and 1962 assayed from 0.176 opt over 14 feet to 1.130 opt Au over 2 feet. Wide sections up to 100 feet core length assayed 0.01 to 0.08 opt Au (AFRI 52G13NW0031, AFRI 52G13NW0031). The Shaft Zone returned a grab sample with an assay of 2360 ppb Au during Triex’s 1998 sampling program (AFRI 52G13NW2001).
