Exploration History

1970: Mattagami Lake Mines Ltd. conducted airborne magnetic and EM geophysical surveys and drilled 10 DDH totalling 6623 feet. 1971: Mattagami Lake Mines drilled 1 DDH totalling 504 feet. 1979: Noranda Mines Ltd. began development of an open pit. 1981: production began. 1983: final mining of ore from pit. 1984: final milling of stockpiled ore.

Apr 15, 2016 (Therese Pettigrew) - The Sturgeon Lake base metal orebodies all occur at or near the top of two volcanic cycles and are in three distinct horizons at three stratigraphic levels. Stratigraphically lowest, the F-Group formed during deposition of the High Level Lake ash flow tuff deposits (52G15NW2005).
