Mineralization Comments

Feb 13, 2020 (Therese Pettigrew) - Along the northwest shore of Seaton Island, Sturgeon Narrows, there are many pink to red, altered, syenitic contact rock phases. A number of small zones, up to a few feet wide and of unknown length, were observed. These commonly contain minor disseminated sulphides, small stringers of purple fluorite, are rusty weathering, and register higher radioactivity. Qualitative spectrographic analysis of grab samples from two of these zones gave 0.004% U3O8 (Rogers, 1964). A sample collected by OGS staff in 1983 returned 0.04% U3O8 (Robertson and Gould, 1983).
