Access Description: The Mattabi Mine road off Hwy. 559 north of Ignace reaches within 6.4 km of Claw Lake. There may be access trails from the mine area to Claw Lake site.



Exploration History

1969-70: Santa Maria Resources optioned a claim block near Claw (Clay) Lake. A geophysical survey indicated an anomalous zone near Claw Lake. 1970: Santa Maria drilled five holes 1971: Falconbridge Nickel conducted radem, VLF, and soil surveys, and geological mapping 1972: Falconbridge drilled additional holes. 1992: Noranda Exploration Company Ltd. conducted magnetometer, TEM, and borehole PEM geophysical surveys, and drilled 1 DDH (including multiple wedges) totalling 1744 m. 2007: 1522923 Ontario Inc conducted gravity and magnetometer surveys. 2011: 3936449 Canada Inc. carried out a soil gas hydrocarbon geochemical survey.

Dec 07, 2005 (R Tuomi) - MINERALIZATION OCCURS IN: exhalite layer, HOST ROCK: felsic to intermediate tuffs, OTHER ASSOCIATED ROCK TYPES: 1) metamafic volcanics, 2) acid (dacitic) tuffs, 3) graphitic metasediments.

Jan 28, 2020 (R Tuomi) - 1971: 16 holes drilled, no grades given. 1973: 13 holes drilled, best intersection was in DDH LLM-17, with 2.62% CU and 0.06 OPT AU over 14 ft at 182.5ft. Santa Maria Mines Ltd. Prospectus, May 20, 1980, p. 3.


Jan 28, 2020 (Therese Pettigrew) - In DDH S-92-1, a section of stringer-type mineralization was intersected at 378 m downhole with best assays of 1.14% Cu and 1.23% Zn over 2.05 m (Assessment report 52G15SW9156).
