Geological Age: Archean
Dec 07, 2005 (B Nelson) - The area is underlain by Early Precambrian (Archean) granitic rocks. Hawley (1929, p. 85) described the Gordon or Jackfish River Occurrence: On the east bank of Jackfish River a vein of coarsely crystalline calcite rises 20 feet from the river and narrows from 4 to 2.5 feet in this distance. At the base it included a 1 foot horse of granite....Forty feet to the east the vein divides into two eastward-trending branches. The vein on the south averages 12 inches and contains some barite. The one on the north has a width of 28 inches and is sparsely mineralized with galena and sphalerite in calcite and reddish barite, but locally contains lenses of solid sphalerite. To the north of this is a 20 foot width of much-fractured granite gneiss cut by a network of narrow calcite veins. The veins have a total length of 150 feet and die out to the east in several stringers. At the east end a 1 foot trap dyke strikes across the veins and has been much faulted and sheared.
