Point Location Description: Pits, shaft and trenches

Location Method: Conversion from MDI

Access Description: In summer the trail is normally useable by all-terrain vehicles. At high water levels in summer a detour to the west around Thomas Lake and then south to the pit area may be possible. In winter time snow mobiles may be able to use plowed or bulldozed trails to reach the site. If aircraft are available, a 700 m walk north-northwest from the north tip of Ouilette Lake to the shafts is possible.

Exploration History

In 1938 and 1939 Classic Sturgeon Gold Mines Ltd. did a mapping and trenching program which included the north tip of Ouilette Lake and Thomas Lake to the north. Four areas had been explored by trenching and drilling on the property, and in 2 cases, the Mine Lake and Thomas Creek areas, by underground development.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (R Tuomi) - The Thomas Creek property which included the Contact, Stewart and Centre veins, were trenched and then had sunk at least 1 drill hole on each property to examine tonnage and grade of each vein. At the same time, at least 2 shafts were sunk on the Mine Lake area to the east. In both cases, the gold bearing veins were deposited in north trending quartz veins, at or near the contact of gabbro with meta-basaltic flows and breccia. While the grade was good, the tonnage was not considered economic at the time.
