Point Location Description: Diamond drill holes
Location Method: Conversion from MDI
Access Description: Boat access to the lake is possible from launching sites off Hwy 599 near Cobb or Horizontal Bays. Snowmobiles can use the same access points or use a poorly defined trail south of the Beckington Lake road to the mine site. Light aircraft can land in the bay south of the mine under favourable conditions, but a boat is advised under windy conditions.
1899: Anglo Canadian Gold Estates discovered two gold bearing veins and named the property the Richelieu Gold Mine. 1903: Miller (1903) visited the property and recorded his impressions of it. Stripping and other work has been done along the vein at points for a distance of about 300 feet. A shaft, 6 x 8 feet, has been sunk at one point. 1934: A 2-compartment shaft was started in December, 1934. By the end of 1934 it had reached a depth of 115 feet. Sinking continued in 1935 to a depth of 287 feet. Levels were established at 125 and 250 feet and exploration by drifting was actively carried out on to September 17, 1935, when the mine was closed down. 1960: Cromorr Mines Ltd. acquired the property in 1960 and drilled to test for down dip extensions of the gold bearing veins.

Dec 07, 2005 (R Tuomi) - The two quartz vein systems that host gold on the property are located at or near the contact of a quartz porphyry and chloritic mafic metavolcanics. The veins strike from 010 degrees to 025 degrees and dip 60 degrees to the west. The contacts of the veins with porphyry are somewhat diffuse, the contacts with the mafic host are sharp. The veins pinch and swell, the greatest widith is 2.4 m (8 feet) and in places vein pinches in to 3-5 cm. The average width is about 0.6 m. The veins contain chalcopyrite, pyrite and ankerite along with rare native gold. A little native copper is reported in the vein. Some of the best grab samples are associated with high concent-rations of massive tourmaline.

Dec 07, 2005 (R Tuomi) - 1981: A grab sample of vein quartz containing chalcopyrite and tourmaline collected by the Resident Geologist assayed 2.99 ounces gold per ton. (Janes and Huggins, 1981) 1935: A bulk sample taken from the 125 foot level averaged 0.5 ounce gold per ton over 2.8 feet width.
