Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (R Tuomi) - Carbonate replacement zone in felsic to intermediate pyro-clastic assemblage contains thin intercalated mafic to intermediate flows. Gabbro-diorite intrussions are common. A detailed discussion of the zone is included in Trowell (1983 p.29-36).

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (R Tuomi) - MINERALIZATION OCCURS IN: sheared contact with carbonate replacement. HOST ROCK: Hanging wall of a mafic intrusion in carbonate replaced felsic unit.

Mineralization Comments

Apr 15, 2020 (R Tuomi) - Moore (1911, p. 153) mentioned Morgan Island: On Morgan Island, just west of Belmore Bay, is a mass of rhyolite tuff in places, impregnated, especially near its contact with quartz porphyry, with calcium and iron carbonates, which are mineralized with copper and iron pyrites and galena. The tuff, in a band about 100 feet wide, is composed of angular fragments of rhyolite, and the whole mass is reddened by the alteration of the iron bearing minerals. The deposit has not been found to carry gold to any extent. In 1975 the Avalon Syndicate acquired claims Pa. 431450 -413454 and cut a grid on the property. A number of rock samples were taken for gold assay. Most of the samples assayed in the 10 to 180 ppb range but one sample returned 4.5 ppm or 0.13 ounce gold per ton. Further sampling programs have given results in the sub-ppm range. According to OGS map P0968 (Trowell, 1974), a carbonate breccia area carrying anomalously high gold values was outlined on Morgan Island.

Apr 15, 2020 (Therese Pettigrew) - Samples taken in 1983 returned values up to 400 ppm Zn, 250 ppm Cu and 28 ppb Au (Assessment report 52J02SE8683). Samples collected in 2011 by Paragon Minerals returned values from trace up to 0.21 g/t Au (Assessment report 20000006555).
