Access Description: Light aircraft can land on the lake close to the drill site in summer and winter. Access to the lake by boats and snowmobiles is possible from access points off Hwy. 599 from Cobb Bay to Trappers Point.
979: J.R. Nixon drilled 1 DDH totalling 49.7 m. 1982: 1983: Moran Resources Corp. carried out prospecting, mapping, sampling, and a VLF-EM survey. Between 1982 to 1985 C. Kuryliw staked a series of claims surrounding Rainbow Island and the entry to East Bay of Sturgeon Lake. These claims were obtained from Mr. C. Kuryliw in 1985 by Mistango Consolidated Resources. Twenty seven of the claims were covered by grid over the lake and magnetic and VLF-EM surveys were carried out. Due to the lateness of the season, most drilling was carried out from islands or lakeshore. The drill was transported by barge from site to site. 1986: Mistango Consolidated Resources drilled five holes in North Arm of Sturgeon Lake near Rainbow Island, including one DDH totalling 144 m on this showing. The area around King Bay and the southern end of North Arm was intensively explored in 1980 following the discovery by Armstrong and Best of new gold occurrences on King Bay. Steep Rock Mines Ltd. explored the area around the discovery in 1982-1983.

02/16/2000 (R Tuomi) - Hole M-86-7 was drilled north at -45 degrees from the shoreline 0.25 mile south of the west end of Rainbow Island to intersect a medium strength VLF-EM conductor. The area is underlain by green to grey metabasalt and gabbro with stringers to bands of feldspar porphyry. At a depth of 45 m the drill intersected a grey quartz vein 0.1 m wide which carried gold, silver and copper associated with chalcopyrite and pyrrhotite. The core assayed 0.06 ounce gold per ton, 0.4 ounce silver per ton and 5 percent chalcopyrite. Mistango DDH M-86-7 returned 0.06 ounce gold per ton over 0.1 m at a depth of 45.1 m (Assessment report 52J02SE9260).
04/29/2020 (T Pettigrew) - Sample 7036 collected by Moran Resources in 1983 assayed 1600 ppb Au (Assessment report 52J02SW8637).
02/16/2000 (R Tuomi) - Shearing.
