Location Method: Conversion from MDI

Access Description: The bay is easily accessed in summer and winter by suitably equipped light aircraft. Boats and snowmobiles can gain access to Sturgeon lake by access points off Hwy. 599 between Cobb Bay and Trappers Point.

Exploration History

1959: Drilling and trenching program was done on copper showing in meta-basalt intruded by feldspar porphyry. Pressman found 1 to 2% copper as chalcopyrite over 0.6 foot width in a short (25 feet) drill hole. 1983: Steep Rock Resources drilled 1 DDH totalling 100 m. 1984: Hudson Bay Exploration and Development Company Ltd. carried out extensive drilling and sampling over the Armstrong-Best and Copper Lake zones (7 DDH totalling 1495 m, with 5 of the holes being in the Copper Lake area). 1987: Diamond drilling by Almaden Resources Corporation on the Copper Lake option discovered two intersections in DDH KB-17-87 averaging 5 feet each with potentially economic gold content.

Geology

Province: Superior

Subprovince: Wabigoon

Belt: Sturgeon Lake

Geological Age: Archean

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (R Tuomi) - Drilling and surface sampling has outlined a 200 m long north trending zone in south facing, southwest striking, fine to medium grained mafic metavolcanics. A 4 m intersection in DDH KB-17-87 ran 0.17 ounce gold per ton. The mineralized zone contained blue-grey quartz in a highly altered matrix containing fuchsite, chlorite, calcite and late white quartz veining. The intersection contained minor pyrite, chalcopyrite, pyrrhotite and rare visable gold.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (R Tuomi) - 1959: Drill hole #1 intersected a fracture zone with 1-2 % copper (chalcopyrite) over 0.6 ft (SLKT 52J/02SW-0010-B1). 1984: Drill hole KB-41-83 assayed 0.396 ounce gold per ton over 3.94 ft and drill hole KB-35 assayed 0.29 ounce gold per ton over 14.4 ft in drill hole intersections (SLKT 52J/02SW-0051).

Mar 24, 2020 (Therese Pettigrew) - The Cross-Cutting Zone 130 m north of the Copper Lake Zone assayed up to 0.13 oz/t Au over 0.5 feet (4.45 g/t Au over 0.15 m). DDH KB-17-87 returned 0.359 oz/t Au over 1 foot (12.3 g/t Au over 0.3 m), 0.516 oz/t Au over 1 foot (17.7 g/t Au over 0.3 m), and 0.389 oz/t Au over 1.1 feet (13.3 g/t Au over 0.33 m) from quartz veins with visible gold in hornblend gabbro diorite (Assessment report 52J02SW0006).
