Aug 24, 2018 (Therese Pettigrew) - The Moretti Trench is dominated by gabbro, sheared gabbro/diorite, and quartz veins. The undeformed gabbro is medium to coarse grained with 0.5 cm plagioclase cumulate crystals and weakly saussiratized, while the deformed gabbro is strongly carbonatized and sheared. The contact between the sheared and undeformed gabbro is visible over aim width, with the quartz-tourmaline-carbonate veins present at the contact and within the shear zone. The quartz veins set within the shear strike are oriented at 235 degrees and dip steeply to the north at 70 degrees (AFRI 52J04NE2001).

Aug 24, 2018 (Therese Pettigrew) - The main showing is located about a 1.5 km southwest of McDougall Mills. It consists of a 0.6-0.9 m wide quartz vein in a well defined shear zone from 9 to 43 m wide in a granite plug. The vein strikes N47E and dips 60NE. It has been traced by a series of surface pits and drilling for a distance of 550 167 m and by diamond drilling for an additional 76 m. The vein consists of white quartz almost barren of mineralization. The drilling cut the vein at a vertical depth of 91 m. Visible gold was noted in the quartz, associated with chlorite threads and ankerite veinlets. A 5-ton bulk sample from the surface pits was reported to have returned 0.48 ounces per ton in gold (16.45 gpt Au) (Chisholm, 1951). The best intercept from the 2016 drill program was 15.62 gpt Au over 0.5 m from DDH BL-06-01 (AFRI 20000015248). Sampling by Coniagas Mines Ltd. in 1941 returned 23.31 gpt Au over 0.88 m and a strike length of 30 m. A bulk sample of 15 tons on the Moretti Vein retuned 0.34 opt Au (11.65 gpt Au) (AFRI 52J04NE0023). Grab samples collected by Cameco in 1997 returned values up to 67.3 gpt Au (AFRI 52J04NE2001). Cameco’s DDH BKL99-14 had assays as high as 190.7 gpt Au over 0.24 m (AFRI 52J04NE2003).
