Lithology Comments

Nov 23, 2017 (Therese Pettigrew) - Copper and gold mineralization occurs in a brecciated zone of granodiorite. Stripping exposed the brecciated and carbonatized zone containing scattered threads of chalcopyrite and pyrrhotite.

Mineralization Comments

Nov 23, 2017 (Therese Pettigrew) - A NE-trending brecciated contact zone between granitic and dioritic rocks contains some disseminated sulphides and threads of chalcopyrite, pyrrhotite and pyrite, and rare specks of molybdenite in tiny fractures. Two large trenches have been excavated on the northwest shoreline of Northeast Bay of Minnitaki Lake and expose erratic mineralization. A picked sample showing good mineralization was found to contain 1.26% Cu and a trace of Mo (Johnston, 1972). Grab samples gave assays ranging from 0.25 to 0.57% Cu and 0 to 0.22 opt Au. The best intersection was a core length of 4.5 feet which assayed 2.30% Cu and 0.12 opt Au (Shklanka, 1969). Chisholm (1951) collected grab samples which assayed 2.81% Cu and 0.05 opt Au. The best results from the 1961 Rio Tinto drill program were 0.57% Cu over 13.5 m (AFRI 52J04SW0007). The best assays from Norlode’s 1988 drill program were from DDH 88-3, between 65.0 and 135 feet, a core length of 70 feet, which assayed 0.47% Cu and 0.62 gpt Au, including a 6.0 foot section assaying 1.61% Cu and 3.19 gpt Au (AFRI 20000003428). Sample 5419 from the 1998 OPAP program returned assays of 1.28% Cu and 1509 ppb Au (AFRI 52J04SW2001).
