Geology Comments

Oct 04, 2011 (R Tuomi) - Brian Atkinson, Red Lake Resident Geologist, has previously tried to determine any continuations to this quartz vein without any success as a result of overburden. Muir (1994a) also mapped this area within the Dixie Lake mapping program. The roadside outcrop exposes granite and vein quartz material. Approximately 20m of vein quartz are exposed at the north end of the outcrop. The orientation of the quartz vein could not be determined. The north portion appears to be of highest purity with fine to medium grained, sugary textured equigranular quartz. The quartz is milky white to mottled orangey brown in colour. East-west striking fractures dip moderately to the north in the north portion, subvertically within the central portion and shallowly to the south in the south portion of the outcrop. These fractures could represent sheeting within the granite batholith.
