Access Description: Located approx. 115 km E of Red Lake with access by float-equipped aircraft to Papaonga Lake.



Exploration History

1930: unknown individuals carried out trenching. 1956: Continental Mining Exploration Ltd. flew an airborne magnetometer survey. 1957: Copper-Man Mines performed ground magnetometer survey then drilled 11 holes (1690 m). 1983: Getty Canadian Metals flew airborne EM and magnetometer and followed up with geological mapping. 2010: Northern Iron Corp. conducted geological mapping and ground magnetics survey mostly focussed to the west.

Geology Comments

Aug 13, 2020 (Bill Paterson) - Property lies just north of the Lake St. Joseph Fault that forms the Uchi-English River subprovince boundary. Geology comprised mainly of interbedded (mafic to intermediate) volcanic rocks and sedimentary rocks. The large gabbroic Papaonga Pluton lies immediately to the northwest.

Mineralization Comments

Aug 13, 2020 (Bill Paterson) - Targeted mineralization is the magnetite-rich banded iron formations. Copper-Man drilling (1957) returned assay grades of 5-35% Fe with individual core samples showing grades up to 33.44% Fe over 14 ft and 36.88% Fe over 25 ft. Est. reserves (1957?): 13,500,000 tons @ 31.06% Fe or 22.69% mag. Fe
