Jan 18, 2018 (R Tuomi) - Sulphide zone is 61 m long and 8 m wide and contains chalcopyrite, pyrrhotite and pyrite, it. Mineralization occurs within a mafic dike and is reported to contain 2% combined Cu and Ni (although no channel samples have been taken).
Jan 18, 2018 (Therese Pettigrew) - The Hawes copper-nickel occurrence lies within a diabase-gabbro body emplaced in granitoid rocks of the English River Subprovince. The body is believed to be part of a regional Middle to Late Precambrian diabase dyke traceable to possibly as far south as Fort Frances. The copper-nickel mineralization consists of disseminated to reticulated pyrrhotite, local chalcopyrite, and rare pentlandite, and occurs adjacent to the barren western chilled contact (diabasic) phase of the dyke. The principal mineralization occurs in a lens about 12 m in length. The zone averages 0.44% Cu and 0.39% Ni across 0.88 m. A composite grab of selected sulphide-rich rubble from the northern pit returned 0.76% Cu and 0.15% Ni. Drilling by Stratamat Ltd. in 1956 shows that the principal lens on surface cannot be traced laterally or vertically for any significant distance. Significant mineralization (no assays available on Stratamat drill logs) was encountered in only 4 short X-Ray holes in the immediate vicinity of the surface showing (AFRI 52L01SW0004).
