Access Description: Property is located approximately 18 km WNW of Red Lake and may be accessed from Mount Jamie Road.
1930: Rowan Discovery Syndicate staked the property and conducted surface work. 1931: Coniagas Mines Limited optioned the property and drilled eleven diamond holes totalling 611 m. 1934: Red Crest Gold Mines Limited drilled eight diamond holes totalling 649 m and began sinking a 3-compartment shaft with levels at 150 and 275 feet. 1935-38: Five ton mill installed; shaft was deepened to 600 ft and levels were opened at 425 and 575 ft; 990 m of lateral work; 1676 m diamond drilling from underground. 1938: property was closed down. All structures have collapsed and all machinery has been removed. 1981: Surface examination by Northgate. 1997: Redbird Gold Corp. carried out prospecting, stripping, and sampling.

Dec 07, 2005 (K R Kettles) - GEOLOGICAL DESCRIPTION: This locality is underlain by east-west striking mafic lava, intruded by a small stock of quartz diorite. A zone of shearing dips 60 deg. to 70 deg. north adjacent to the south margin of the stock, and cuts the quartz diorite/volcanic rock contact at a small angle in an east-west direction. To the east the shearing extends into the volcanic rocks whereas to the west it penetrates into the quartz diorite. This shear zone contains barren white quartz veins, auriferous banded blue-grey vein quartz (which in some instances forms the outer portion of otherwise barren white quartz veins), and barren quartz-carbonate veins. Gold is associated with coarse-grained 'bronzy' pyrite which occurs in the blue quartz veins and in adjacent, shattered silicified wallrock (Horwood 1940). The largest amount of fracturing and highest gold concentrations occur where the shear zone intersects the quartz diorite/volcanic rock contact. DEPOSIT DESCRIPTION: A shear zone striking N45 deg.W and dipping 63-70 deg. NE contains possible ore shoots totalling 206 m in length on surface and 14.6 m or more at the 575 foot level. Ore widths average about 1.5 m.

Oct 30, 2015 (Therese Pettigrew) - The Red Crest deposit is hosted in Balmer assemblage rocks (middle tholeiitic basalt, and gabbro of the Balmer plutonic suite) intruded by a quartz diorite stock of the Graves plutonic suite. The Red Crest quartz diorite has an age of 2729±1.5 Ma. In addition to the quartz diorite, Horwood (1945) mentions later diorite dykes that seem to be best developed in the underground workings. An exposure of chlorite schist at the base of the rock dump in the vicinity of the original discovery trench is composed of chlorite, quartz, talc and ankerite. The rocks exposed in the vicinity of the shaft show varying amounts of shearing and silicification. The intensity of shearing changes from low to intense over distances of a few metres. (Lichtblau et al., 2004).

Dec 07, 2005 (K R Kettles) - MDI1 DATA: PRODUCTION 1935-36: 277 OZ AU, 65 OZ AG FROM 591 TONS MILLED, ESTIMATED RESERVES: 36,496 TONS AT 0.203 OPT AU Due to erratic gold distribution, bulk sampling would be necessary to determine grades accurately. Horwood (1940) quotes a fairly reliable calculation by W.T. Robson who in February 1938 estimated 36,496 tons of ore grading 0.203 oz/ton (6.960 g/tonne) Au from channel samples.
Nov 13, 2020 (Therese Pettigrew) - The northwest-striking Pipestone Bay–St. Paul Bay deformation zone crosses the property. The mineralized veins are hosted in a shear zone, associated with the deformation zone, which crosses the contact between the metavolcanic rocks and the quartz diorite and dips 60 to 70° north. The rheological contrast between the diorite and the mafic metavolcanic rocks was important in developing the vein system. A composite level plan published by Horwood (1945) indicates several roughly parallel veins striking 135 degrees dipping 55 to 70 degrees north, with most of them dipping 64 to 70 degrees. Three types of veins are present: barren white quartz veins, barren quartz-carbonate veins and auriferous blue-grey quartz veins. Gold is associated with coarse bronze-coloured pyrite in the blue-grey quartz veins. These veins are erratically distributed giving rise to the problems determining grade and reserves when the mine was operating. Fine pale whitish pyrite present in the diorite and frequently in the walls of the vein system shows very little gold. The west side of the rock dump contained a large amount of quartz vein material identified as “ore” during the 1993 AMIS site visit. A selected grab sample of quartz with coarse bronzy pyrite from this dump assayed 1.17 ounce Au per ton (Sample A). Sample B, taken from a long trench east of the shaft, returned 39 ppb Au, 271 ppm Cu and 74 ppm Zn. Pyrite is the most common sulphide mineral, but small amounts of chalcopyrite and minor arsenopyrite are also present (Lichtblau et al., 2004). Samples taken from the mine dump returned assays of 4.407 oz/t Au (151.07 g/t Au) and 0.224 oz/t Au (7.67 g/t Au) (Assessment report 52M01SE2001).
