Geology Comments

Nov 13, 2020 (Therese Pettigrew) - The Wolf Bay property is located in the Red Lake greenstone belt of the western Uchi Subprovince. The property lies within the lower mafic sequence of mainly metavolcanic rocks, and is assigned to the Balmer assemblage (Atkinson et al., 1993).

Lithology Comments

Nov 13, 2020 (K R Kettles) - This area is underlain by mafic volcanics, felsic tuff and tuff-breccia, chert-magnetite and chert-pyrite iron formation and clastic sediments. Bedding and cleavage strike roughly northeast-southwest and dip vertically. Extensive trenching and stripping were carried out in this area, and several channel samples of ore-grade material were obtained (Ruttan 1945). Records of the old sampling localities have been lost and TD 40 comprises a locality at which Riley (1978) obtained a gold assay from a trench in mafic volcanics. This occurrence comprises auriferous quartz vein material and gold-bearing altered wallrock. The size of the prospect is unknown.

Riley (1978) collected a grab sample that assayed 0.07oz/ton (2.400 g/tonne)Au, 1.08 oz/ton (37.028 g/tonne) Ag, 0.05% Cu, 0.05% Pb, 0.24% Zn. R.A. Riley (1978) collected a grab sample that assayed 0.14 oz/ton (4.800 g/tonne) Au, 0.80 oz/ton (27.428 g/tonne) Ag, and 0.28% Pb.

Nov 13, 2020 (Therese Pettigrew) - Sulphide mineralization occurs with the mafic flows and is accompanied by biotite alteration, garnetization and silici fication. The mineralized zones have had extensive trenching and bear some resemblance to Madsen ore mineralization in Baird Township. The highest reported gold values are associated with pyrrhotite mineralization. OGS samples collected in 1992 returned up to 0.172 oz/t Au (5.9 g/t Au) and 1.27 oz/t Ag (43.53 g/t Ag) from a pyrrhotite-bearing mafic flow (Atkinson et al., 1993). Sampling in 1991 returned values up to 0.58 oz/t Au (19.88 g/t Au) (Assessment report 52M01SE0038). From the trenches 150 m to the west, Sample 431 returned 2.95 oz/t Au (Assessment report 52M01SE0027). Samples collected in 2002 returned up to 5.14 g/t Au over 0.5 m from a weakly fractured mafic metavolcanic containing weak carbonate veining and traces of chalcopyrite (Assessment report 52M01SE2033).

Alteration Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (K R Kettles) - This mafic volcanic is silicified in the vicinity of the trenches.
