Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (K R Kettles) - A unit of iron formation and siltstone strikes NW-SE, dips to the NE and is in contact with mafic volcanics to the north and felsic tuff to the south. The iron formation is fractured and filled with quartz veins, especially along the south contact with felsic volcanics. This zone is reported to contain gold (Riley, 1975), but A.C. Bray indicated that gold values determined in 1937 were not sufficient to justify continuation of work that year.

Rock Type Rank Composition Texture Relationship
Vein 1 Quartz Host
Ironstone-unsubdivided 2 Fractured Iron Formation Adjacent
Siltstone 3 Adjacent

Lithology Comments

Sep 29, 2020 (Therese Pettigrew) - The property is underlain by altered basic lava flows of Keewatin age, interflow beds of iron formation and quartzite, dikes and masses of Late pre-Algoman quartz porphyry, and a small stock of Algoman granodiorite (Horwood, 1940).

Mineralization Comments

Mar 23, 2012 (K R Kettles) - The iron formation is fractured and contains quartz veins which contain gold, silver and minor pyrite, chalcopyrite, and nickel. Sampling in 1937 returned low assays so work was discontinued. 2003. Goldcorp took multiple samples, highest assay returned 1.08 ppm Au

Sep 29, 2020 (Therese Pettigrew) - Sample 73538 returned 1080 ppb Au from a banded iron formation. Sample 73540 returned 3090 ppb Au from an amphibolite with a white quartz vein, chlorite and 10% garnet (Assessment report 52M01SE2041).

Alteration Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (K R Kettles) - The wall rocks are silicified.
