Exploration History

Mine includes 6 zones: SC, F, B and E, Shaft, H, ESC (Robin). 1944: initial discovery site of Red Lake Gold Mines mineralization was trenched on the shore of Balmer Lake. 1946: Dickenson head frame erected, shaft sinking began. 1947: Dickenson purchased 150-ton mill and surface plant from Gold Eagle Mines Ltd. 1948: milling began on the Dickenson Mine. 1949: first gold bar was poured on Jan 21. 1960: Merger of New Dickenson Mines Ltd. and Lake Cinch Mines Ltd. to form Dickenson Mines Ltd. 1983: Dickenson Red Lake Mine changes name to Arthur W. White Mine. All Dickenson gold properties other than those in production were spun off into a holding company called Goldquest Exploration Inc. 1988: Dickenson Mines Ltd. acquired 100% ownership by purchasing Cambior Inc.’s 34% interest. 1991: Dickenson Mines Ltd., Goldquest Exploration Ltd. & CSA Management were reorganized and combined into Goldcorp Inc. The Arthur W. White Mines was renamed the Red Lake Mine. 1995: Significant discovery announced at Red Lake Mine. 9 holes averaging 311.31 g/t Au over 2.3 m in an area previously thought to have no potential. 1996: on June 23, production was suspended for nearly 4 years due to a labour strike. 2002: Deep Sulphide zones discovered. 2003: No. 3 Shaft Balmer Complex begins in March to further develop High Grade Zone. On May 12, 2006, Goldcorp Inc. acquired all of the issued and outstanding shares of Placer Dome (CLA) Limited, then a wholly owned subsidiary of Barrick Gold Corporation and operator of the Campbell Mine. The Campbell Mine was integrated with Goldcorp Inc.'s Red Lake Mine, now the Red Lake Complex, to form one mining operation thereafter known as the Red Lake Gold Mines (RLGM). The Campbell Mine is now referred to as the Campbell Complex of RLGM. Production statistics subsequent to May 12, 2006, reflect a combined total production from the 2 complexes. 2007: 612,791 feet of definition, delineation and exploration diamond drilling was conducted by Red Lake Gold Mines. 2008: 692,436 feet of definition, delineation and exploration diamond drilling was conducted by Red Lake Gold Mines. 2009: 513,762 feed of definition, delineation and exploration drilling. 2010: 20 millionth ounce poured. 2012: rehab work on the Cochenour WIlliams shaft for underground exploration of the Bruce Channel deposit; construction of a haulage drift from the Campbell Complex to the Bruce Channel deposit. In 2012, produced 507 700 ounces of gold from both the Campbell and Red Lake Complexes. In 2013, gold production totalled 493,000 ounces from entire Goldcorp operations in Red Lake. 2019: acquired by Newmont in April. 2020: Evolution Mining Ltd. acquired the mine and is part of the Red Lake Operations including Campbell, Balmer Complex and Cochenour. Bateman Gold Project including the McFinely deposit now part of Evolution's property in the area due to the acquisition of Battle North Gold in 2021.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (K R Kettles) - The mode of occurrence of gold at this locality is in quartz veins within a shear zone striking about S65E that cuts intermediate lava and breccia. The volcanic rocks contain chert-carbonate chemical sediments north and south of the deposit, and some lavas in the vicinity of the No.2 shaft contain silicified zones 1 to 2 m wide that are heavily impregnated with sulphides, probably including arsenopyrite. Underground drilling by Gold Frontier Mines Limited encountered carbonatized volcanic rocks. This north vein west was believed to be structurally continuous over 1000 m. with TD 2.
