Exploration History

1926-27: Dunlop Red Lake Syndicate did considerable stripping and approximately 20 trenches were completed. 1946: MacFie Red Lake Mines drilled 16 holes, totalling 3660.0 m. Geological and magnetometer surveys were also completed. 1974: Laddie Gold Mines Ltd. performed a second magnetometer survey. 1975: 6 holes were drilled totalling 607.0 m.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (K R Kettles) - Most of the outcrop on the property occur on claim 19981 and the three northern claims east of Balmer Creek. Massive mafic metavolcanic flows are the only rocks exposed. On the basis of pillow packing stratigraphic tops are to the south. Two bands of interlayered slate and greywacke underlie the northern part of the property. The strata strike northwest and dip about 80 degs SW. Several narrow feldspar porphyry dikes have been intersected in diamond drill holes. The mineralization occurs in a shear zone in altered mafic volcanics.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (K R Kettles) - The mafic volcanics which host the mineralization are altered and sheared, and are brecciated.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (K R Kettles) - Trenching in 1926 exposed a wide shear zone in altered mafic volcanics, with a strike length of approximately 460 m. The altered mafic volcanics are brecciated, and contain many thin quartz-carbonate and quartz stringers, sparsely mineralized with pyrite, pyrrhotite, and chalcopyrite. The shear zone strikes at N60 degs W. Drilling intersected the zone at depth, but gold values over trace are uncommon. Samples from trenches are reported to have returned assays ranging from trace to 0.8 opt Au/1.5 m, 0.41 opt Au/6.1 m, and 3 assays of 0.11 opt Au/3.0 m. Only 1 assay is reported from the 1946 drill campaign: 2.32 opt Au/0.2 m. No significant gold values were obtained from the 1975 diamond drill program.

Alteration Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (K R Kettles) - The mafic volcanics in the area have been highly carbonatized and silicified, with the introduction of thin quartz-carbonate stringers in brecciated zones.
