Exploration History

The property was originally staked in 1941 by John Humlin and then optioned to Howey Mines Limited, who carried out trenching. The option was relinquished and in 1945, the property was sold to Humlin Red Lake Gold Mines Limited. Early 1940s: Trenching and diamond drilling. 1944-1945: Trenching. 1945: Diamond drilling of 38 holes. 1981-83: Selco Ltd. cleaned three trenches and carried out sampling and soil sampling. 1986: Redaurum Red Lake Mines Ltd. carried out mapping and drilled 3 DDH. 1995: Placer Dome Ltd. acquired the property and conducted ground magnetics survey over the entire property, sampling, and soil geochemistry. 1997: Placer Dome conducted a ten-hole diamond drill program followed up by I.P survey and soil geochemistry survey. Number of trenches and stripping were also completed. 2003: Placer Dome conducted a drill program consisting of 5 DDH for a total of 3570 m.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (K R Kettles) - GEOLOGICAL DESCRIPTION: The prospect is underlain primarily by altered basalts. Minor diorite dikes have been observed on the property. The basalts differ locally from the other areas in that they are coarser grained. They would probably be classified as diorites, except that a transition into fine grained pillow lavas can been seen. Iron formation has been observed and occurs between some lava flows. The general strike of the formation is approximately 115 deg. , and the dip is nearly vertical. A shear zone with a width of more than 100 m traverses the prospect. Apart from the rocks in the shear zone, most of the rocks are massive. Tension cracks at high angles to the schistosity are common. DEPOSIT DESCRIPTION: Gold-bearing siliceous lenses with arsenopyrite mineralization occur in a shear zone over 100 m in width. It has been noted that the lenses dip to the south, contrary to the dips of the bedding and cleavage, which dip steeply to the north.

Lithology Comments

Apr 14, 2020 (Therese Pettigrew) - Folded uniform and pillowed metabasalts and overlying porphyritic quartz latite have been intruded by metagabbro, trending sub-parallel to the northwesterly strike of the country rocks. Auriferous veins, sometimes containing arsenopyrite, occur in shear zones in basalts and latite breccia (Haynes et al., 1971).

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (K R Kettles) - MDI DATA: GRADE 1945 TRENCHES: TR.-0.78 OPT AU, ZONE IS APP. 150 FT LONG,12 FT WIDE @ 0.13 OPT AU, GRADE 1986 DDH 86R1: 2 ZONES:0.08 OPT/7.2' AND 0.09/26.8 FT; OTHER INTERSECTIONS IN 1987 The zone has a strike length of approximately 300 m and a average width of approximately 25 m. Values from 9 trenches range from trace to 0.78 oz./ton (26.742 g/tonne) Au.

Apr 14, 2020 (Therese Pettigrew) - DDH 86R1 returned 0.08 opt Au over 7.2 feet (2.74 g/t Au over 2.2 m) and 0.09 opt over 26.8 feet (3.09 g/t Au over 8.2 m), with the highest assays ranging up to 0.27 opt Au over 1 foot (9.26 g/t Au over 0.3 m). Grab samples from the trenches returned values up to 0.12 opt Au (4.11 g/t Au) (Assessment report 52N04SW0140). During 1995, one trench from the A Zone was cleaned and chip sampled (at one-metre intervals) along the entire length. The highest Au value returned was 1.14 g/t. Located approximately 275 m southwest of the A Zone, the B Zone consists of a 20 cm wide quartz vein (oriented at 140 degrees, dipping steeply west) in sheared and carbonate altered basalt. Pyrite and arsenopyrite occur in the vein and host rock. Foliation in the basalt is developed at 120/90. Grab samples taken during 1995 returned gold values up to 1.89 g/t for the host rock and 7.85 g/t from the quartz vein (Assessment report 52N04SW0087).

Alteration Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (K R Kettles) - Weak carbonate alteration is present in the quartz veins.
