Exploration History

From 1969 to 1973, Cochenour Willans Gold Mines Ltd. was active in the Slate Falls and Drum Lake areas. Geologic mapping, airborne mag and EM, ground mag and EM, prospecting and diamond drilling were completed on several grids in a joint venture with Selco Exploration Company Limited. Low copper-zinc values were reported in a few of the holes (B-42-70-1A to 7). The exploration program by no means exhausted the posssibility of sizeable ore bodies in the area.

Mineralization Comments

Jun 18, 2007 (Mark Puumala) - This discretionary occurrence is based on the reported presence of massive and disseminated sulphides on the log for Cochenour Willans-Selco diamond drill hole B-42-70-4 (AFRI# 52O06SW0010). An approximately 5.5 m section of material logged as black meta-argillite was reported to contain 20 to 30% fine and massive bands of pyrite with tract sphalerite and chalcopyrite. Approximately 60 cm of massive sulphide was also noted within this mineralized horizon. The meta-argillite unit was reported to be bounded on both sides (i.e., to the northeast and southwest) by siliceous tuff that was reported to contain up to 8% disseminated pyrrhotite. The upper portion of the drill hole (i.e., northeast of the mineralized horizon) was logged as mafic metavolcanics and amphibolite. Massive sulphide mineralization was also noted in a number of other drill holes advanced by Cochenour Willans-Selco on the same property. For example, an 8.5 m section of massive pyrite containing trace sphalerite was logged in ddh B-42-70-1A (AFRI# 52O06SW0010). The massive sulphides were found between horizons logged as felsic tuffaceous greywacke and volcanic breccia. Disseminated pyrite and/or pyrrhotite were also noted in thes horizons. Amphibolitized mafic metavolcanics were also logged in the upper portion of this drill hole to the northeast of the felsic metavolcanics and massive sulphide. Disseminated sulphides consisting of pyrite, pyrrhotite and occasional sphalerite and chalcopyrite were noted in the felsic metavolcanic/metasedmentary sequence on a number of other drill hole logs in AFRI# 52O06SW0010.
