Geology Comments

Feb 07, 2007 (Mark Puumala) - The Fault Creek occurrences are located in supracrustal rocks of the Pickle Lake Greenstone Belt. These rocks are classified by Young (2003) as being part of the >2860 Ma Pickle Crow assemblage. The supracrustal rocks form a narrow northwest-southeast striking belt that is bounded to the southwest by granitic rocks of the Ochig Lake Pluton, and to the northwest by granitic rocks of the Hooker-Burkoski Stock. The supracrustal rock sequence is dominated by pillowed and massive mafic metavolcanic flows that contain narrow, continuous bands of banded iron formation and volcaniclastics (North (1984). The largest iron formation unit is reported by North (1984) to range in thickness from approximately 30 m to 90 m. Mapping by Stott et al. (1986) indicates that stratigraphy and foliations in this area are subparallel and generally strike approximately northwest-southeast and dip moderately to steeply to the east. Stott (1986) also indicates that the rocks in the supracrustal wedge between the Ochig Lake Pluton and Hooker-Burkoski Stock contain a number of narrow ductile shear zones within strain aureoles imposed during emlpacement of these late- to post-tectonic intrusions.

Mineralization Comments

Feb 07, 2007 (Mark Puumala) - Pye (1976) describes this showing as being hosted within a 1.5 m wide quartz vein that is located at the contact between sheared and contorted mafic metavolcanics and quartz porphyry. The vein strikes north-south and consists of glassy white quartz mineralized with minor pyrite. Seams and stringers of quartz and local disseminated pyrite have also been reported within the porphyry intrusion. Lytle (1945) indicates that the most favourable assay reported from this occurrence was 0.41 oz/ ton Au for a specimen collected by D. Wright. However, the best assay obtained during subsequent sampling by Central Patricia Gold Mines was 0.03 oz/ton.
