Mineralization Comments

Dec 29, 2006 (Mark Puumala) - This occurrence is described by Thomson (1939) as a gold-bearing vein hosted in highly sheared mafic metavolcanics and syenite porphyry dikes. Thomson (1939) also indicates that the vein is cross-cut by late aplite dikes that were interpreted to be related to the granitic Hooker-Burkoski Stock that has been mapped immediately to the east of the occurrence by Pye (1976) and Stott et al. (1989). Mineralization is described by Thomson (1939) as consisting of traces of sulphides within white and pinkish quartz. Dona Patricia Gold Mines reported gold assays of up to 5.84 oz/ton Au in grab samples and 0.42 oz/ton Au in character samples collected from six quartz stringers (Mineral Deposit File (Port Arthur News Chronicle article, December 13, 1939). Pye (1976) reports that follow-up diamond drilling carried out between 1936 and 1946 did not encounter any mineralization of economic interest.
