Mineralization Comments

Dec 22, 2006 (Mark Puumala) - The No. 6 (McCallum) Vein was previously mined by Central Patricia Gold Mines via the Springer Shaft during the late 1930s (Evoy 1988). The vein is described by Pye (1976) as having an average orientation of approximately 255/65 to 70. However, the vein is also reported to be highly contorted, with numerous z-shaped folds. The vein pinches and swells significantly over short distances (thickness variwes from a few cm to metre-scale), having an average with of slightly over 30 cm (Pye 1976). Total gold production from this deposit was 13,158 ounces from 18,886 tons of milled ore (Ferguson, Groen and Hayes 1971). The vein is described by Pye (1976) as consisting of white quartz containing some tourmaline, chlorite and carbonate, mineralized with subordinate amounts of pyrite, pyrrhotite and arsenopyrite. Visible gold occurs in fractures in the quartz, along ribbons of chlorite and tourmaline, and in fractures in pyrite and arsenopyrite. During the late 1980s, Noramco Exploration identified significant gold mineralization in quartz veins and sulphidized iron formation in close proximity to the Springer Shaft area (Evoy 1988). Assays from Noramco diamond drill holes CP-87-23, 57, 72 and 92 reportedly define a significant zone of gold mineralization in iron formation over a minimum strike length of 120 m. McGregor (1993) subsequently estimated open pit reserves of 1000 tons grading 0.70 oz/ton Au in the No. 6 vein, and 4000 tons grading 0.16 to 0.20 oz/ton in the No. 6 iron formation.
