Geology Comments

Feb 08, 2007 (Mark Puumala) - The supracrustal rocks of the southeastern portion of the Pickle Lake Greenstone Belt have been classified by Young (2003) as being part of the approximately 2744 Ma Confederation Assemblage (Young 2003). The rocks at the base of this east-facing assemblage are dominated by pillowed mafic volcanic flows that are geochemically distinct from those found further to the west in the Pickle Crow Assemblage (Young 2003). The Confederation Assemblage also contains significant units of intermediate to felsic metavolcanic rocks that include tuff, lapilli tuff and agglomerate. The supracrustal rocks are bounded to the southeast by granitic rocks of the Quarrier Tonalite Gneiss domain (Stott 1996). Mapping in this area by Stott et al. (1989) indicates that the dominant lithology is mafic metavolcanics, with subordinate amounts of intermediate to felsic meatavolcanics. A geophysically-inferred iron formation has also been mapped in the area. Stratigraphy and foliation generally strike northeast with steep (generally approximately 80 degrees) northwesterly dip.

Mineralization Comments

Feb 08, 2007 (Mark Puumala) - This discretionary occurrence is based on the reported occurrence of significant sulphide mineralization in four diamond drill holes (67-1, 2, 3A and 4) advanced in this area by N. Firth in 1967. Assay results from these diamond drill holes were reported to contain sub-economic concentrations of copper, zinc and nickel. Diamond drill hole logs indicate the presence of significant pyrrhotite and/or pyrite mineralization (i.e., massive to semi-massive sections) within the mineralized rhyolite horizon. Chalcopyrite and sphalerite were also noted in a number of mineralized intervals which also contained anomalous copper and zinc assays (up to 0.16% Cu and 0.41% Zn). Silicification and graphite are also reported in some of the sulphide mineralized sections.
