Geology Comments

Nov 10, 2006 (Mark Puumala) - The Dome Misehkow River gold occurrences are located in a metavolcanic and metasedimentary belt described by Sage and Breaks (1982) as the Pashkokogan Lake-Misehkow River Belt. This belt is bounded to the north by Granitoid rocks of the Kagami Pluton and Seach-Achapi Lakes Granitoid Complex (Stott 1996), and to the south by the metasedimentary migmatites of the English River Subprovince. Rocks mapped in the immediate vicinity of these occurrences by Sage and Breaks (1982) include mafic metavolcanics (dominant lithology), felsic metavolcanics, clastic metasedimentary rocks and iron formation. Diamond drill hole logs compiled by Dome Exploration at the site in 1988 provide evidence of relatively complex stratigraphy and stong deformation/alteration. The following lithologies are reported to have been encountered during diamond drilling (9 holes): mafic metavolcanics, iron formation, chlorite schist, sericite schist, intermediate tuff, greywacke, rhyolite, and one narrow (1m intersection) felsic dike.Stott and Corfu (1991) have interpreted the boundary between rocks of the 2750-2730 Ma Confederation Assemblage and 2723-2713 Ma St. Joseph Assemblage to be located in close proximity to this occurrence, along an inferred contact that is approximately coincident with the course of the Misehkow River. Confederation Assemblage rocks are located to the north of the river, and are dominated by mafic metavolcanics, while the St. Joseph Assemblage rocks are located further to the south and include mafic and felsic metavolcanics and metasedimentary rocks. The Dome Misehkow River gold occurrences are located in rocks immediately adjacent to the Confederation.St. Joseph Assemblage boundary. Sage and Breaks (1982) indicate that bedding and foliation orientations in the Pashkokogan Lake-Misehkow River Belt are generally parallel. Foliation in felsic metavolcanic rocks in close proximity to the occurrence was mapped by Sage and Breaks (1982) as having an orientation of 235/86. Based on the lithological descriptions provided in the Dome Exploration diamond drill logs, and the relative locations of the occurrences, it is probable that they are associated with an east-northeast-striking structure similar to that hosting the nearby Northern Dynasty Misehkow River prospect.

Mineralization Comments

Nov 10, 2006 (Mark Puumala) - A number of anomalous assays were obtained from diamond drill hole 312-05, with the highest being 3.42 g/t over 0.35 m. These assays were obtained from samples of sulphidized magnetite-chert-amphibole iron formation and chlorite schist. The mineralized iron formation material is reported to contain up to 20% pyrrhotite and 5% pyrite, while the mineralized chlorite schist contains abundant quartz-carbonate stringers and disseminated sulphides (up to 3% pyrrhotite, 1% pyrite and trace arsenopyrite).
