Geology Comments

Nov 09, 2006 (Mark Puumala) - The August Lake occurrence is described by Shlanka (1968) as an iron formation consisting of two zones that are approximately 1600 m by 60 m and 850 m by 45 m. These zones were delineated during a ground magnetometer survey. The stratigraphic log for Algoma Steel diamond drill hole AL-6-69 indicates that approximately 35 m of iron formation was encountered. Hornblende-biotite schist was logged above (south) of the iron formation, while olivine gabbro was noted below (north). This occurrence is located in a similar setting to that found nearby at Heart Attack Lake (Sage and Breaks 1982).
